We are looking for a dedicated and motivated Electrical Field Technician to join our team. This entry-level position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the assembly, installation, testing, and maintenance of electrical switchgear systems, including Power Distribution Centers (PDC), circuit breakers, and other critical electrical equipment. The Electrical Field Technician will work closely with experienced technicians and electricians to learn the fundamentals of electrical systems, troubleshoot issues, and develop the skills needed for a successful career in electrical field tech.
Primary Responsibilities
- Participate in on-the-job training and mentorship from experienced technicians, learning to assemble, install, and maintain switchgear systems, including PDC, UPS, and related equipment.
- Assist with the installation and wiring of electrical switchgear components, ensuring compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and manufacturer specifications.
- Assist in the testing and troubleshooting of switchgear systems, learning how to use testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, insulation resistance testers) to verify system performance.
- Assist in routine maintenance and repairs of electrical systems and switchgear, including preventive maintenance and corrective actions.
- Adhere to safety regulations and best practices while working with electrical systems, ensuring a safe working environment at all times.
- Help maintain accurate documentation for installations, maintenance activities, and testing results, ensuring all paperwork is complete and accurate.
- Work alongside experienced electrical technicians and supervisors to gain insight into system operation, troubleshooting, and best practices for electrical installation and service.
- Familiarize yourself with industry standards, such as NEC, IEEE, and NFPA, to ensure compliance with safety and electrical codes.
- Assist in communication with clients or other stakeholders regarding project status, system performance, and any issues that may arise during installation or maintenance.
Professional Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferably with coursework in electrical systems or related subjects). Enrollment or completion of an electrical apprenticeship program is a plus.
- Strong interest in learning electrical systems and switchgear technology, with a desire to pursue a long-term career in the field.
- Some understanding of electrical principles, circuits, and systems, with a willingness to learn and apply new technical skills.
- Familiarity with basic electrical tools and equipment, including multimeters, screwdrivers, and power tools.
- Ability to learn troubleshooting techniques and assist with identifying and resolving electrical issues.
- Knowledge of general safety practices when working with electrical systems, with a strong commitment to following safety protocols.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to follow instructions, complete tasks efficiently, and demonstrate a commitment to learning.
