POSITION SUMMARY

The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely operating forklifts to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count merchandise in the warehouse. This role ensures the proper handling of materials to meet productivity goals while adhering to safety standards. The Forklift Operator plays a vital role in maintaining a smooth and efficient workflow in the warehouse environment.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move products safely and efficiently within the warehouse.
  • Load and unload trucks and containers, ensuring proper placement of items to maximize space and minimize damage.
  • Stack, organize, and store materials in designated locations, maintaining an organized and accessible warehouse layout.
  • Perform routine inspections of forklifts and other equipment to ensure they are in good working condition and report any maintenance needs.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and company policies to maintain a safe working environment and reduce the risk of accidents or injuries.
  • Assist in inventory control by verifying the accuracy of inventory counts and reporting discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure timely and efficient movement of goods, supporting warehouse operations.
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and leads, assisting with tasks as needed to support the overall operations of the warehouse.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the warehouse and work area, including performing basic cleaning tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including wearing the required personal protective equipment (PPE) and following proper lifting techniques.
  • Complete all necessary documentation related to the movement of goods, including inventory logs and shipping records.
Requirements:

SECURITY

Complies with all company inventory control and security procedures

  • Is responsible for the security and application of good warehousing inventory practices.
  • Possesses specific knowledge of safety protocols for the facility and customer accounts.

SAFETY

  • Complies with all government and company safety rules.
  • Reports safety issues promptly to management.

EQUIPMENT USED

  • Ability to operate a sit-down, counter-balanced forklift, with company certification as a minimum requirement.
  • Ability to use various equipment, including order pickers, high-lifts, pallet jacks, and forklift attachments like slip sheeters and clamps.
  • Ability to train and coach others on the safe and efficient use of all equipment within their area of responsibility.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1-3 years previous warehouse experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Proven experience operating forklifts or similar equipment in a warehouse or industrial setting.
  • Proficiency with MHE is required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English—both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to think logically and problem-solve to analyze situations, troubleshoot, and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

  • Ability to stand, walk, and operate equipment for extended periods
  • Ability to perform focused work with close attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
