GENERAL SUMMARY
The Chief Radiation Therapist will be responsible for training, competency assessment and annual review of the radiation therapist staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Train, supervise and evaluate the radiation therapy staff and oversee staff schedule.
- Maintain personnel records, monitor vacation, sick and absence of staff, department payroll, employee relations, discipline, and employee resource allocations.
- Daily activity capture review
- Write and update policies and procedures for radiation oncology and be responsible for oversight of treatment machine maintenance.
- Monitor quality assurance activities.
- Oversee Carepath physics and dosimetry as well as RO MIPS under MIPS coordinator.
- Regularly assess the performance of radiation oncology systems and equipment, and other operational aspects of the department, and recommend ways to improve.
- Participate in department growth activities, including new treatment equipment.
- Delegate decision making and tasks consistent with overall management effectiveness.
- Demonstrates responsibility and accountability in the performance of treatment, assessment, and implementation of the prescribed treatment plan.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the specific conditions, diseases, and treatment therapies for the patient population of the department.
- Recognizes changes in the patients status/condition and reports to appropriate personnel, responding appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol.
- Utilizes treatment accessories to accurately reproduce the radiation treatment.
- Ensures that all QA procedures are complete and within tolerances before proceeding with patient treatment as outlined in department policies and procedures (any abnormalities/inconsistencies should be reported to the proper authority).
- Works closely with the Radiation Oncologist and therapy team to construct immobilization devices or custom blocking techniques that are conducive to conformal radiation therapy.
- Utilizes sophisticated imaging equipment for precise tumor localization.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff and management.
- Adhere to and support compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned including, but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA & CMS guidelines for Parts C & D on General Compliance and Fraud, Waste & Abuse.
- Ensure, compliance of the Center, Radiation oncologist and Staff with healthcare regulations, medical laws and high ethical standards.
- Ensure unit maintains confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, and finances.
- Demonstrate cost effectiveness and efficiency in decision making.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologist required.
- BLS required.
- Licensure as required by State.
KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES
- Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR, Practice Management Solutions.
- Demonstrates effective verbal and electronic communication skills in order to maintain an accurate Electronic Medical Record.
- Expertise in the technical aspects of radiation oncology to include simulation and treatment processes to ensure optimal radiation treatment delivery.
- Ability to motivate and coach individuals to improve job performance.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
- Knowledgeable in the areas of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety.
- Working knowledge of radiation safety principles and practices as defined by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other regulatory agencies.
- Practices within the Department's policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of billing and coding.
- Knowledge of tools and equipment.
- Complies with all health and safety policies of the organization.
- Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Graduate from an accredited Radiation Therapy program required. Bachelors Degree required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 7 years as a radiation therapist.
- One (1) year of management experience preferred.
