Material Planner

Job Description: Job Summary

This position coordinates and expedites the material requirements needed to support Client's electrical Transmission, Substation, and Distribution operations and ensure that project milestones are met. It is responsible for monitoring the efficiency and effectiveness of the material requirements process and for developing business process improvements to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of supplying materials to Client's field forces. The Intermediate Material Planner directs the demand for materials by evaluating materials requests (MRs) and determining the optimal tactical supply chain for ensuring the right material is delivered to the right location according to the work management schedule. This position is also responsible for procuring materials and services if needed and is authorized to make award decisions up to *** on any individual procurement before requiring additional management review. This position works independently with minimal supervision.

Job Responsibilities

• Duties include reviewing and revising material requests that flow from Client's work management process.
• Ensures that MRs comply with the various supply chain strategies for the material demand they represent.
• Identifies and resolves material holds and bottlenecks to ensure that work management schedules are not impacted. Recommends alternative materials and strategies for meeting the MR need dates.
• Optimizes the flow of materials from Client's central distribution center, the Systems Facility Center (SFC), laydown yards and the local service centers across Client service territory.
• Communicates and coordinates material demand and material sources between project management teams, the regional logistics services employees and the material buyers.
• Negotiate with suppliers to expedite Client deliveries based on need by dates in project schedules.
• Helps to identify and develop plans for forecasting material demand and seasonal usage.
• Coordinates material delivery with the Logistics Services organization upon direction from the field.
• The position will also review material availability and make recommendations on inventory stocking levels.
• Provide training for other Material Planners.
• Provide reporting to internal customers and contractors.
• Establish/maintain professional relationships with suppliers, based on the highest ethical business practices as set forth in the Standards of Conduct and Integrity and Client’s Supply Chain Policies.
• May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.
• The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
  
  

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, or related fields.
• 2-5 years of experience in materials requirements planning, procurement, manufacturing, scheduling and/or related disciplines.
• Experience using ERP, procurement, or work management systems.
• Demonstrated analytical skills.
• Experience with using EXCEL, including the ability to create v-lookups and pivot tables.
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Ability to travel throughout the Client service territory.
• Detail-oriented, ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with strict deadlines.
• Demonstrated time management skills.

• Master’s degree in supply chain, business, or related fields

Comments for Suppliers: The position is located in Allentown. The selected candidate must report to the office at least 3 days a week.
