Work Schedule:

Hours are Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with variable shifts.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  •  High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish/English
  • Experience in vital signs and basic medical care (e.g. EMT, Phlebotomist, Patient Care Tech, Home Health Aide, Nurse Aid, etc.)

Primary Accountability


An apprentice, in medical assisting, is an individual enrolled in a 12-month training program that combines hands-on lab time, job training and online learning. Apprentices receive a starting pay of $16.00 per hour. This position is full-time with benefits and includes 8 hours of paid learning time. Each apprentice is expected to dedicate 5-10 hours of independent learning at home throughout the program to enhance their skills and knowledge. There are tuition costs, like any educational program, which will be explained in more detail during an interview. This position is required to be bilingual, conversational Spanish.


The apprentice's responsibilities include learning and developing practical clinical skills, participating in online classes, observing all health and safety codes, completing school work and competencies, and passing the Certified Medical Assistant Exam.


The apprentice must also be well-organized, flexible, and willing to assist wherever possible. To be successful as an apprentice, you must have great time management and basic computer skills, strong professionalism, strong attendance including being on time, be flexible, open and be ready to learn.


Description of Primary Duties & Responsibilities - These will include but are not limited to:

  • Prepares room and patient for physician visit. Obtains vital signs and chief complaint. Appropriately documents information obtained.
  • Performs laboratory and diagnostic testing.
  • Answers, screens and triages telephone calls. Takes accurate messages and distributes to the appropriate personnel within the guidelines of the practice.
  • Administers oral and injectable medication. Phones prescriptions to pharmacies.
  • Provides explanation of lab results, diagnostic testing results and provider orders to patient/family.
  • Assists with cleaning and stocking of exam rooms and suites.
  • Demonstrates a positive team attitude and has interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with clients, their families, providers and co-workers.
  • Engages and helps promote patient/family teaching as appropriate; and provides an educational environment for patients and patient families.

Professional and Technical Knowledge

  • Proficient in customer service and professionalism.
  • Has the ability to appropriately handle conflict, presents a positive demeanor both verbally and non-verbally. Possesses a professional level of written and verbal communication skills.
  • BLS Certification, to be completed within two months of employment.
  • Proficient in computers and Word.
  • Ability to use and respond to e-mail.

Physical Demands

  • Job duties are performed in the typical office environment of the organization, which requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations. The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following:
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, frequently sit, and lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, reach with arms & hands, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and manipulate (using keyboard, office equipment).
  • Visual acuity to use keyboard, operate office equipment, and read printed material and regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Able to hear and communicate clearly with clients and staff on telephone and in person.
