Job Description of a BCBA
Assessment and Analysis:
- Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs) to understand the causes of certain behaviors.
- Use various data collection methods to gather information on the client's behaviors and skills.
Program Development:
- Design and implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) based on assessment results.
- Develop skill acquisition programs to teach new skills or improve existing ones.
Supervision and Training:
- Provide training and supervision to behavior technicians, paraprofessionals, and other support staff.
- Oversee the implementation of behavior intervention plans by other staff members.
Data Monitoring and Analysis:
- Regularly collect and analyze data to monitor client progress.
- Make data-driven decisions to modify or update behavior plans as needed.
Parent and Caregiver Training:
- Educate and support parents, caregivers, and other family members on implementing behavior strategies.
- Conduct training sessions to help them understand and reinforce behavior interventions at home.
Professional Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with other professionals, such as teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and medical professionals, to provide holistic care.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings and case conferences.
Ethical Practice:
- Adhere to the ethical guidelines and standards set by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
- Ensure all interventions are evidence-based and implemented with the highest ethical standards.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client progress and intervention outcomes.
- Prepare reports and documentation required for insurance, funding, or administrative purposes.
Responsibilities

· Provide supervision to Registered Behavioral Technicians (RBTs) working with clients.
· Develop a child-specific behavior plan in accordance with the principles of ABA.
· Train each staff member on their client’s specific behavior treatment plan.
· Continuously conduct weekly reviews of data to ensure that treatment is effective.
Modify any programs that are not making progress or that the client has mastered.
· Conduct assessments not limited to the VB-MAPP, ABLLS, or AFLS upon intake and every 6 months, thereafter.
· Track all authorizations dates for clients and update all treatment plans before authorizations expire.
· Monitor and adjust behavior plan throughout treatment period in accordance with the child’s progression.
· Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) as needed.
· Provide regular parent/caretaker training
· Maintain knowledge of different programs and certifications through CEU events.
· Assist with scheduling
· Provide direct coverage as needed
· Assist with any clinical needs as they arise
· Provide/develop inhouse trainings as needed
Supervisory responsibilities
· Supervise RBTs who are working towards their BCBA/BCaBA certification
· Provide initial corrective feedback to RBTs, when needed, as part of progressive disciplinary action procedures
· Proactively manage and develop RBT staff
Qualifications/requirements
· BACB Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA), required
· Texas Behavior Analyst License, required
· A Master’s degree in special education, psychology, or related field, with specialized knowledge of behavioral health and treatment philosophies and professional practices (BCBAs)
· A Bachelor’s degree in special education, psychology, or related field, with specialized knowledge of behavioral health and treatment philosophies and professional practices (BCaBAs)
· Possess extensive knowledge and training in behavior analysis.
· Knowledge of Catalyst data collection systems, preferred
· CPI certification, preferred
