General Counsel

Job Summary:

ISC Constructors, LLC is seeking a strategic and experienced leader in the field of Construction Law to establish and lead the company’s first in-house legal function. The General Counsel role involves advising the executive management team on all legal aspects of the company’s engineering and construction services. Responsibilities include supporting preconstruction efforts, contract review and negotiations, ongoing project management (including procurement, claims, and litigation), and serving as a legal resource in risk management and compliance. The General Counsel will assist, investigate, research and represent the Company to resolve legal matters and work with a variety of departments including business development, estimating, construction, operations, equipment services, human resources, safety, insurance, and finance.

The General Counsel position will report to the President and will initially operate independently, with the expectation of building and leading a small legal team in the future. Key Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic legal advice, guide the company on legal matters, and will eventually build and lead an in-house legal team.
• Lead contract reviews, negotiations, and major legal reviews while maintaining organized legal records.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, and handle litigation, arbitration, and mediation processes.
• Collaborate with leadership to align legal strategies with business goals.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Legal Expertise: Deep understanding of corporate, contract, labor, and construction law, with strong regulatory compliance knowledge.
• Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the industrial construction sector and corporate-level contract negotiations.
• Business Acumen: Ability to align legal decisions with financial and operational goals.
• Legal Skills: Expertise in contract negotiation, drafting, litigation management, and dispute resolution.
• Leadership: Proven ability to lead and develop legal and compliance function.

Education and Experience:

Required

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in Louisiana or eligibility to be admitted.
• Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, including expertise in contracts, corporate law, labor relations, and risk management.
• Demonstrated success in negotiating and managing complex contracts across various industrial sectors.
• Proven ability to lead and develop a legal department or function.

Preferred

• Experience working as in-house counsel, especially in a high-growth or industrial organization.
• Experience with construction contracts, particularly in industrial or construction sectors
• Familiarity with HR-related legal issues and compliance.
• Strong understanding of the industrial construction sector and associated legal complexities.

Work Environment:

The General Counsel will operate in a dynamic and fast-paced environment typical of a growing industrial construction company. This role is based at ISC Constructors, LLC’s Baton Rouge office, with the option for a hybrid work schedule (up to 2 days per week remote).
