POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the efficient operation of the TIR Lane within the General Cargo Terminal Operations. Success in this role requires a comprehensive understanding of all TIR Lane functions, procedures, and TIR Clerk duties. The TIR Team Lead is integral to maintaining the smooth flow of traffic through the lanes and ensuring adherence to operational standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a TIR Clerk capacity or working in an industrial environment such as a warehouse or marine terminal as a shipping and receiving clerk, including verifying cargo.
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of all TIR lane functions & procedures as well as TIR Clerk duties.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively in an industrial outdoor environment and deal with potential conflicts.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and fellow employees.
  • Must be able and willing to work in an industrial outdoor environment exposed to extreme weather conditions, including heat, rain, wind, and high humidity.
  • Must be able to work (flexible hours) extended hours, including nights, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and speak basic English.
  • Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
  • Must have the ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.
  • Must have the ability to think logically, follow procedures and instructions, and make sound decisions.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within sixty (60) days of employment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary
  • Perform all functions in accordance with operating and safety guidelines.
  • Perform a visual inspection of the truck and equipment for obvious mechanical and structural deficiencies or damage (such as broken tail or indicator lights, condition of the tires and mud flaps, the validity of the license plates, and the currency of the required annual highway inspection and any obvious tears or rips in the container to ensure that it is roadworthy).
  • Verbally report all discrepancies and/or damages to the immediate supervisor.
  • Sign documentation and coordinate location and transfer to deliver inbound cargo.
  • Verify HAZMAT documentation is accurate.
  • Handles the TIR Lane Trouble Window, solving trucker trouble tickets and verifying trucker documentation pertaining to bookings, seals, and hazardous cargo.
  • Manually verifies third-party bookings not in the system by cross-checking trucker information with Line and Truck office personnel and TIR Clerk transactions.
  • Keeps running count of TIR gate transactions, trouble tickets, and TIR Lane delays for the TIR Lane Gate Transactions Report.
