Job Title : House Supervisor (Registered Nurse)
Shift : On-Call / Pool, Days / Nights
Summary : The House Supervisor independently manages crisis situations, interprets policies, makes decisions impacting patient care, ensures effective departmental communication and collaboration, and has operational responsibility throughout the hospital. They act as an administrative liaison to patients, families, health system employees, and external customers.
Responsibilities :
- Expedite issues to senior administrators and escalate problems as necessary.
- Provide nursing staff with advice and guidance.
- Supervise nursing staff in their day-to-day duties.
- Serve as an arbitrator for staffing decisions as needed and investigate all untoward events / incidents.
- Serve as a clinical resource for complex patient care.
- Maintain clinical expertise in handling cardiac arrests and other emergencies in non-patient areas and patient care areas, resolving problems through appropriate interventions / strategies.
- Enforce policies, protocols, and standards.
- Coordinate and facilitate patient admissions / transfers, e.g., ICU placements, ER admissions, and Transfer Center, interfacing with various departments / hospitals as needed.
- Provide resources for ethical issues and obtain necessary medications.
- Address staff and customer complaints.
- Communicate through the chain of command.
- Participate in and facilitate in-service education programs.
