Position Summary:
Performs structured evaluations and develops a treatment plan in conjunction with primary care counselor using therapeutic, recreational, and leisure activities.
Conducts assessment and establishes recreational therapy treatment goals and objectives to meet the individual needs of patients.
Evaluates each patient's progress and the effectiveness of recreational therapy interventions.
Coordinates therapeutic recreation activities for both large and small groups to observe patient response and encourage socialization.
Provides patient and patient's family with information regarding leisure life styles and creates an awareness of recreational resources in their community.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Recreational Therapist is responsible for performing therapeutic recreational assessments, recommendations for therapeutic interventions and carrying out general and specialized activity therapy interventions and programs in assigned treatment areas. This role provides direct patient care to various patient populations including children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Planning and implementation of group sessions for each population.
- Planning and implementation of individual sessions.
- Documentation of group sessions and individual sessions.
- Completion of Activity/Recreational Therapy assessments.
- Planning and assisting with programming outside of normal group hours for special events.
- Maintaining and ordering appropriate materials and supplies for interventions.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPECTATIONS:
- Must read, write, and speak fluent English
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field and minimum one year experience providing direct individual or group therapeutic services required pending
State requirements.
Licenses/Certification
- Certified Recreation Therapist
- Minimum 1 years of experience in psychiatric setting.
