Jefferson City Public Schools is Hiring an Activities/Athletic Director Near Jefferson, MO

SUPERVISE: All Coaching Staff, High School Health and Physical Education Department, Club Sponsors, and MSHSAA Activity Sponsors

Purpose Statement

The primary function of the Activities Director is to manage and oversee the district’s interscholastic activity program while working collaboratively with local community groups to ensure a through and quality activity program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education
  • MA in Athletic Administration or Education Administration preferred.
  • Possess and implement MSHSAA rules/training.
  • Create MSHSAA eligibility forms/scheduling.
  • Assist in 5 Star Leadership Education Developments.
  • Develop and coordinate workers for events.
  • Assist in payroll and data entry for invoicing.
  • Assist in Positive Coaching training and implementation.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Organize, supervise, and administer all MSHSAA related programs, activities, and events.
  • Organize and ensure appropriate supervision of District sponsored student clubs and activities.
  • Prepare a master budget and supervise equipment inventories for all MSHSAA regulated programs, activities, and events.
  • Secure and file the paperwork for equipment lease requests involving the athletic department.
  • Prepare a master sports calendar that includes all games/events.
  • Produce an electronic version of a building use calendar.
  • Coordinate gym use for practices and games and give final clearance for the use of either the gym or the athletic field.
  • Work with coaching staff and transportation supervisor to schedule all athletic departure times and provide bus supervision with trip sheets.
  • Take care of travel arrangements and overnight accommodations for players or athletic teams (and coaches) competing in postseason competition.
  • Seek and recommend suitable competition for all non-conference games/events.
  • Hire all officials for 7-12 and non-conference contests. Confirm official’s contracts and all non-conference contest contracts.
  • Secure game workers for athletic contests, chain crews, announcers, clock operators, score keepers, line judges, etc. and submit the list of contracted workers for that contest to the event supervisor prior to the event.
  • Submit athletic expense request sheets for payment of officials and other works to district office.
  • Coordinate the collection of rosters for program information, as needed.
  • Act as a resource person and coordinator for all coaches.
  • Assist in supervision at home athletic contests.
  • Assist building principal in the selection of coaches for the athletic program.
  • Evaluate all athletic programs on an annual basis. Make recommendations for improvement to the building principal and district administrator.
  • Complete an evaluation form and hold a conference with all head coaches within three weeks after the conclusion of their sports season.
  • Mediate the resolution of problems, issues, and concerns that may arise between coaches and athletic programs.
  • Provide a channel through which students and the community may express their concerns about the athletic program.
  • Provide for in-service of coaching staff, as needed.
  • Responsible for administering all National Federation, Missouri High School Activities Association, school district and building rules and regulations. Frequent meetings may be called to facilitate a smooth operation of these rules and regulations with coaches. Disseminate MSHSAA materials and enforce MSHSAA rules and regulations, including player eligibility.
  • Collect, file, and notify athletes and coaches regarding student eligibility as it pertains to physical cards and athletic code of conduct. Work with coaches and principals in problems of discipline concerning athletics. Will also maintain a file of athletic suspensions and expulsions from teams in regard to giving each athlete “due process”.
  • Responsible for coordinating the drug-testing program.
  • Administer concussion baseline testing for selected athletic teams.
  • Update Ticket Tracker weekly, the ticket scanning system used for entrance to all athletic contests and school dances.
  • Work collaboratively with local organizations, including parks and recreating and the local YMCA, to strengthen athletic programs throughout the community.
  • Collect and maintain on file a properly completed physical for every student participating in athletics.
  • Administer the school athletic code in a fair and consistent manner that is within the intent of the code.
  • Ensure district adherence to all MSHSAA and district policies, administrative rules, procedures, and codes relating to and participation in athletics.
  • Help with the organization of Sports Medicine Program.
  • Coordinate the ordering of awards, distribution of letters, chevrons, captain stars, etc.
  • Attend state, regional, and national meetings whenever possible.
  • Provide information to the District Public Relations person.
  • Act as a tournament manager for all league and tournament playoff activities that are assigned to your school.
  • Require all non-certified coaches to follow the District hiring procedures.
  • Organize, supervise, attend, and administer the annual State Track meet.
  • Organize, supervise, attend, and administer the Winter Tournament.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
