The Jewish Association on Aging, a progressive non-profit healthcare continuum is hiring a Full-time Environmental Associate for an upscale Personal Care facility located in the heart of Squirrel Hill.

Job Summary:

The Environmental Associate is responsible for the cleanliness and safety of the building. They are to complete job routines with diligence as well as deal with environmental issues as they arise. Each Environmental Associate will be held 100% responsible for their area of the building.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Each employee must be familiar with all of the routines associated with the Environmental Services Department.
  • Routines will include the following:
  • Cleaning entire bathroom with appropriate chemicals used in a safe manner.
  • Stripping bed of soiled linens and remaking bed with clean linens.
  • Collection of soiled personal laundry and bed linens. These items are then taken and stored in the utility room and properly labeled.
  • Dusting of all furniture with appropriate chemicals used in a safe manner. This includes bottoms and legs of furniture.
  • Removal of all refuses from the apartment. Replacement of one (1) trash liner in each apartment.
  • Vacuuming all carpets and furniture, including behind furniture and under cushions.
  • Cleaning entire kitchenette area and bathroom floors with appropriate chemicals used in a safe manner.
  • Clean, vacuum and high dust all public areas within job assignment.
  • Clean windows and change filters when required.
  • Pull the trash from each floor to the dumpster daily.
  • Wash mop heads and rags in the 1st floor washer/dryer.
  • The van driver routine will include:
  • Maintaining cleanliness of interior and exterior of bus.
  • Securing resident in safety harness before commencing travel.
  • Observance of all traffic laws and speed limits.
  • Maintaining accurate mileage and schedule time records.
  • Writing and adhering to a schedule of pick-ups and drop-offs.
  • Reporting accidents immediately to the supervisor.
  • Maintaining a valid PA driver’s license
  • Maintain the first aid kit to meet the Department of Public Welfare’s licensing regulations.
  • Maintain cell phone (charging and in good repair).
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Identify potential maintenance concerns and report them to the appropriate personnel.
  • EVS associates are to prop the door open when cleaning a resident apartment.
  • All staff will observe universal precautions at all times through the use of barrier gloves, goggles when necessary, and full toed/heeled shoes.
  • Any accidental damage to the facility or resident property must immediately be reported to the supervisor. If the accident did not result from a violation of policy or procedure, no punishment will be given to the employee.
  • Respond to resident needs to the best of the employee’s ability. This may include activities, some resident care and possible kitchen/dining room duties.
  • Be available to clean a unit when asked due to emergencies.
  • Report immediately to your supervisor any chemicals left in common areas and laundry rooms.
  • Keep noise level to a minimum. Work quietly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Training and Experience:

  • Must participate in initial and ongoing training by attending all in-service education programs, demonstrations and workshops as assigned.
  • Must have intimate knowledge of MSDS data and location of files.
  • Must have intimate knowledge of fire safety, fire extinguisher locations and evacuation procedures as detailed in the Emergency Preparedness Manual of the facility.
  • Must possess the ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.

  • The ability to work autonomously throughout the stages of an assignment or project.
  • A willingness to learn new skills and continually improve both the quality and process of the day-to-day operations of the facility.
  • A cheerful, yet professional personality and presence that is unvarying.
  • Must be able to adhere to all rules and regulations of regulatory agencies and the facility.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours. This includes all shifts that the EVS department works including weekends.
  • Must be able to work within and support the Service Excellence campaign of the organization.
