Job Summary:
The Driller will be responsible for creating boreholes and conducting soil and rock sampling to provide critical information for construction projects.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operates drilling equipment to create boreholes for various construction purposes.
- Performs drilling activities to obtain soil and rock samples.
- Conducts subsurface investigations to gather data for construction planning and design.
- Extracts soil and rock samples using appropriate drilling techniques.
- Assists in laboratory testing of samples to determine soil composition and characteristics.
- Works closely with geologists, engineers, and other construction team members to provide accurate subsurface information.
- Adheres to all safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe working environment during drilling operations.
- Performs routine maintenance and inspections on drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Reports any equipment issues or malfunctions promptly.
- Maintains accurate records of drilling activities, including depth, soil types encountered, and any unexpected conditions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient in the operation of drilling equipment and various drilling techniques.
- Knowledge of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering principles.
- Ability to interpret drilling logs and subsurface investigation reports.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification or training in drilling operations is required.
- At least one year of related experience is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods working with large and possibly noisy equipment.
- Must have excellent depth perception, hearing, and manual dexterity to operate all machines safely.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
