SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNTIY:
A Diesel Mechanic, also known as a Diesel Service Technician, plays a crucial role in maintaining and repairing diesel-powered vehicles and machinery. With general direction from the Shop Manager, the Diesel Mechanic provides technical services on company trucks and construction equipment. This mechanic position involves thorough preventative maintenance inspections, unscheduled repairs, and complex operations such as engine and brake repairs.
Their expertise extends to trucks, forklifts, trailers, and other heavy equipment. Let’s delve into the specifics:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Diagnosing and Repairing: Diesel Mechanics inspect, diagnose, and repair issues related to diesel engines. This includes troubleshooting problems with hydraulics, brakes, transmissions, steering systems, and other components.
- Preventative Maintenance: They perform routine maintenance tasks to keep vehicles and machinery in optimal condition. This involves tasks like oil changes, lubrication, fluid replacements, brake adjustments, and tire rotations.
- Welding and Fabrication: When necessary, Diesel Mechanics handle welding or fabrication tasks on trailers and other equipment.
- Work Orders and Parts Management: They prepare work orders, document repairs, and order necessary parts to ensure efficient operations.
- Emergency Field Visits: In case of breakdowns or emergencies, Diesel Mechanics conduct field visits to address issues promptly.
- Assist with small engine repairs: When necessary, Diesel Mechanic will diagnose and repair small engine.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Technical Expertise: Diesel Mechanics require significant technical training and/or experience. They should be adept at complex operations, including engine repairs, electrical work, fuel system maintenance, and exhaust repairs.

Experience & Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to successfully pass a drug screening
- The ability to work irregular hours including weekends when necessary
- The ability to exert oneself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath
- The ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without giving out or fatiguing.
