What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cardiac Device Technician position at Kaiser Permanente?
Cardiac Device Technician will provide thorough, proficient interrogation, re-programming of Cardiac Implantable Electronic device (CIED) commonly known as pacemakers and ICDs to name a few. These cardiac device patients may present in person, remotely, and/or via phone transmission. Technicians may be responsible for initial device analysis, preliminary report generation, and alerting physician or non-physician practitioner to urgent issues requiring further attention.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Interrogates, reprograms and performs function analysis of Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device (CIED) programming per physician orders and under supervision of Physician or mid-level provider as an NP or PA.
- Conducts analysis in the acute (laboratory) and chronic threshold testing
- Performs clinical analysis of permanent pacemakers and ICD patients in the clinic and remotely.
- Efficient knowledge and usage of various device programmers such as Medtronic, Boston Scientific and St. Jude Medical on a daily basis.
- Performs initial interrogation, threshold testing, review clinical diagnostics, perform reprogramming and print final report for physician review.
- Documents in the Specialized Clinics flow sheet within EHR, using the assigned physicians standard.
- Relays physician recommendations to the patients related to device adjustments.
- Coordinates and arranges alternative, low volume device interrogations such as ELA and Biotronik. Enters orders in EMR per Orders Management protocol.
- Provides support and coverage for the Cardiac Monitoring Center as needed.
- Coordinates all home based remote monitoring programs such as Merlin.net, Carelink, Latitude and any Transtelephonic
- CIED analysis rooms device patients and/or office visits for the CIED APP/Physicians.
- Performs serial reprogramming of devices during Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy clinic.
- Demonstrates an ongoing competency in Device electrocardiograph monitoring, device scanning, analysis and report generation for physician review.
- Knowledge of concepts related to the implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) interrogation and function analysis.
- Conducts or performs ICD reprogramming per physician order.
- Displays knowledge (expertise) to recognize normal device function threshold analysis and device programming during CIED implant procedure per facility policy.
Grade 504
Qualifications:
- Minimum two (2) years in Cardiac Device experience or equivalent years of CIED industry experience.
- High School Diploma or Graduate from an accredited Cardiovascular or Allied Health Training program required.
- Basic Life Support
- Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CCI) within 6 months of hire
- Experience as a Device company representative with companies such as Biotronic, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and St. Jude, experience analyzing and reprogramming cardiac pacemaker and AICDs (Biotronik, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and St. Jude: OR Cardiovascular technologist or EP lab technologist holding minimum of RCES, RCIS credential.
- Paramedic with proven ability and verifiable experience with cardiac devices.
- Experience reviewing and managing remote device transmission (ex. Carelink, Latitude, and Merlin, OR Certification from a recognized Cardiac Device Training School (i.e. ATI, IBHRE, Medtronic Academy).
- Knowledge of Cardiovascular terminology.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient use of keyboard.
- Actively stays up to date in device management and trends in technology related to device management.
- Excellent communication and patient education skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work well independently.
- Must be able to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support preferred.
- Prior experience with the use of Electronic Health Record (EHR) strongly preferred.
- IBHRE certification preferred.
- A.S. Degree or Bachelors Degree preferred.
