What are the responsibilities and job description for the Entry Level Construction Estimator position at KCI Construction?
Purpose: The Estimator will support the preconstruction/estimating group with the preparation of estimates by reviewing project documents. Estimator will work with Director of Estimating by performing pricing, and bidding of construction projects for civil, highway/roadway, self-performed work and as GC. Extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, costs and construction principles are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of accurate estimates for assigned projects, ensuring they are completed on time and meet professional and competitive standards.
- Review bid documents to gain a clear understanding of project scope and requirements.
- Support the determination of labor, material, and equipment costs under the guidance of senior team members.
- Perform basic quantity take-offs and assist with pricing as needed.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with subcontractors and suppliers while upholding ethical standards.
- Visit project sites to observe and document conditions that could impact construction methods or costs, with support from the team.
- Provide support in the buy-out process as directed by senior estimators.
- Stay informed about new estimating tools and techniques to develop skills and contribute to the team’s success.
- Represent KCI professionally at industry events when opportunities arise.
- Perform other duties as assigned, with a focus on learning and development within the estimating field.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is preferred.
- Experience in estimating in any capacity.
- A high degree of integrity.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Organized, ability to meet deadlines, and attention to detail.
- Must be a self-starter and team player.
- Knowledgeable of construction costs and engineering principles.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, working knowledge in HCSS Heavy Bid a plus.
