What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural / Roadway Estimator position at KCI Construction Company?
Purpose: The Structural / Roadway Estimator will support the preconstruction/estimating group with the preparation of estimates by reviewing project documents. Estimator will work with Director of Estimating by performing pricing, and bidding of construction projects for civil, highway/roadway, self-performed work and as GC. Extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, costs and construction principles are essential.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of accurate estimates for structural and roadway projects, ensuring they are completed on time and meet professional and competitive standards.
- Review bid documents, including plans and specifications, to understand the scope of structural and roadway work and required deliverables.
- Support the determination of labor, material, and equipment costs specific to structural and roadway construction under the guidance of senior estimators.
- Perform basic quantity take-offs for structural elements (e.g., bridges, retaining walls) and roadway components (e.g., paving, grading, drainage) and assist with pricing as required.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with subcontractors and suppliers specializing in structural and roadway work, while upholding ethical standards.
- Visit project sites to observe and document conditions affecting construction methods or costs, such as access, existing infrastructure, and soil conditions.
- Provide support in the buy-out process for structural and roadway materials and subcontracted services as directed by senior estimators.
- Stay informed about advancements in estimating tools, construction methods, and materials relevant to structural and roadway projects to enhance skills and contribute to the team’s success.
- Represent KCI professionally at industry events and in meetings with clients and stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned, with a focus on developing expertise in estimating structural and roadway projects.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is preferred.
- 3 years experience in estimating with exposure to structural and roadway construction.
- A high degree of integrity.

- Organized, ability to meet deadlines, and attention to detail.
- Must be a self-starter and team player.
- Knowledgeable of construction costs and engineering principles.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, working knowledge in HCSS Heavy Bid a plus.
