Primary Purpose:
Provides leadership and coordination of programs for students with disabilities to ensure provision of needed services for
students served through Section 504, Dyslexia, and Special Education. Works to provide individualized education plans to
meet the needs of all students and ensure compliance with all state, federal, and local requirements.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
· Master’s Degree
· Texas Teacher certification
· Educational Diagnostician certification
· Special Education Certification
· Mid-management/Principal/Administrative Certification (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
· Ability to organize and coordinate district-wide special programs (such as: Section 504, Special Education, Dyslexia
Services, SHARS)
· Ability to interpret data
· Knowledge of strategies and materials for educators of students with disabilities
· Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, behavior strategies, evidence-based practices and statewide assessment
· Strong knowledge of technology
· Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to provide relevant, meaningful and engaging professional development
· Display professionalism in dealing with students, campus staff, and parents
Experience:
· Minimum 5 years successful experience as a special education/general education teacher
· Educational Diagnostician experience required
· Administrative/Supervisory experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:

2. Assist in analyzing the critical needs in assigned areas to design, implement, measure and refine assigned programs.
3. Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in area
of Section 504, Special Education, Dyslexia, and SHARS.
4. Coordinate and support special programs and services to meet students’ needs with resources, and materials to support
teachers in meeting educational goals.
5. Assist with the selection and purchase of supplemental equipment and supplies for the programs assigned.
6. Collaborate with content area coordinators to ensure that curriculum renewal is continuous and responsive to special
needs students.
7. Work collaboratively with campus administrators and staff by providing advisement regarding discipline procedures,
improving special education settings, and the implementation of behavior intervention plans for special education students.
8. Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs and programs beneficial to the overall
well-being of the students; help teachers to pilot such efforts when appropriate.
9. Demonstrate support for the district’s student management policies and expected student behavior related to special
programs.
10. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
11. Pursue professional development activities that align with district goals and initiatives and current professional research.
12. Recommend, train, and evaluate department employees directly or indirectly.
13. Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
14. Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
15. Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
16. Perform other related duties as assigned.
