Description:

The Division of Humanities and Fine Arts at Keuka College seeks adjunct instructors to teach assigned courses in American Sign Language and American Sign Language-English Interpreting. General Responsibilities:

Teach courses as needed in American Sign Language, such as introductory courses for students in the ASL and ASL-English Interpreting programs.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students in courses in the American Sign Language and American Sign Language-English Interpreting programs
  • Plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus, goals, and objectives
  • Design, administer, and grade essays, examinations, and applicable projects to accurately assess achievement of course objectives as identified in the syllabus
  • As appropriate, contribute to program assessment of student learning outcomes based on signature assignments in courses
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and actively engage students
  • Maintain regular office hours to meet one-on-one with students
  • Work with the program faculty to ensure instructional quality and program quality
  • Adhere to College policies and procedures

Essential Skills

  • Experience teaching American Sign Language Candidates should have strong leadership and interpersonal skills, initiative, and the ability to work in a student-centered environment
  • Successful candidate will have experience using a variety of teaching strategies and tools

Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in ASL, Deaf Cultural Studies, Deaf Studies, Education, Linguistics, or related field; doctorate preferred
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language
  • Demonstrated 2 years of experience and excellence in college teaching
  • American Sign Language Teachers Association Certification for teaching ASL courses will be given additional consideration
  • Demonstrated experience teaching traditional, hybrid, and online courses
  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom
