What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Engineer position at Keystone Powdered Metal Company?
Keystone Powdered Metal Company, a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is looking for a full-time Product Engineer who will be working in our St. Marys, PA location. This person will report to the Manager of Product Engineering.
The position will be responsible for New Product Launch (APQP), Value Added / Value Engineer (VAVE) and New Product Quotation of products that produce a high profit margin and greater value to our customers. Position will work cross-functionally with Marketing, Sales & Operations to develop and design products that will penetrate the national and international markets.
The position will allow you to demonstrate your ability to drive and support new products through the product life cycle, and execute cost savings initiatives through VA/VE & product rationalization. The position will require you to be highly proficient in project management and documentation with the ability to manage multiple projects in parallel with enabling rapid development of new design concepts.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Utilize manufacturing background to lead new product quotation development
- Interface with the customer to understand needs and expectations
- Understand program application interfaces and testing requirements
- Identify and execute projects to drive Value Added Value Engineering (VAVE)
- Maintain and upgrade existing products
- Launch new products and process changes through the automotive APQP process
- Track project status and report key milestones to management, suppliers, and customers
- Demonstrate effective problem-solving techniques
- Understanding of Powdered Metal Manufacturing Process including secondary operations
- Develop and update core process and product PFMEA’s per AIAG standards
- Understanding of customer and internal quality systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent technical experience
- Strong Communication Skills
- Basic Computer Skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a powdered metal manufacturing environment
- Experience with OEM, Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive customers
- Strong knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Excel/ Microsoft Project
- Detail-oriented and well organized
- Strong leadership skills (leading cross-functional teams)
Compensation may vary depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, competencies and location. Base pay is one part of the total compensation and benefits package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work.
