PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE - CENTER OF EXCELLENCE
Purpose of Job
The purpose of this position is to assist in providing care to patients living with HIV through the Center of Excellence, a Ryan White Funded Clinic.
Essential Functions
Essential functions the position will be responsible for include the following:
- Provide HIV education and counseling to those living with HIV and those caring for HIV infected individuals
- Collect lab specimens as ordered by the physician including but not limited to: blood, urine, compartment swabs
- Provide education and counseling related to other sexually transmitted infections such as Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, HPV and HSV
- Provide STI medications and/or immunizations as covered by Public Health Nursing
- Protocol or by physician order
- Ensure standards of HIV nursing practice are met with each patient
- Assess barriers to care for each patient including factors that may influence medication adherence
Navigate health insurance entities to ensure procedures and medications are provided as directed by physician
Additional Job Functions
- Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours
- Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local regional orcentral office supervisors as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
- Perform other duties as required
Minimum Training & Qualifications
Training and qualifications for the position include the following:
Graduated from an accredited nursing school
- Current and unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse
- Minimum of two (2) years’ related experience

Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be considered to qualify for the position
Specialized Knowledge
- Must be trained and certified in cardio-pulminary resuscitation (CPR) at hire and maintain certification post-hire

Obtain certification in Association of Nurses in AIDS Care within one year
of employment and maintain ongoing certification

- Ability to regularly solve difficult problems and occasionally for solving complex problems
- Ability to engage in substantial communication with other Knox County Government employees and the public
- Ability to use typical office equipment including a multi-line phone, photocopier, calculator, and fax machine
- Ability to regularly use a desktop computer, laptop computer, printer, computer scanner, and PC projector
- Ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of software programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

management systems - Ability to appropriately use a variety of medical devices
Ability to use tact to resolve issues

- Occasional periods of moderate effort or frequent periods of light physical activity are required
