Job Description
The Child Watch Director oversees the daily operations of the YMCA Child Watch (drop-in) programs in Onalaska and La Crosse, ensuring a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for children. This role involves managing staff, program quality, child safety protocols, and family satisfaction. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, leadership, and organizational skills to deliver exceptional childcare services. This position is full-time exempt.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Management: Oversee the daily operation of the Child Watch program, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and adherence to YMCA standards and guidelines.
Staff Supervision: Recruit, train, and supervise Child Watch staff and volunteers. Schedule shifts, monitor performance, and ensure all staff meet licensing and certification requirements.
Child Engagement: Plan and implement age-appropriate activities that promote learning, physical activity, and fun in a positive environment.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure that all safety protocols are followed, including maintaining proper child-to-staff ratios, child supervision, sign-in/out procedures, and emergency preparedness plans.
Family Relationships: Build strong, positive relationships with families by maintaining open communication, addressing concerns, and ensuring high-quality service.
Budget Oversight: Assist with program budgeting, monitor expenses, and ensure resource efficiency.
Facility Management: Ensure cleanliness and organization of Child Watch spaces, materials, and equipment.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in child development or education or a related field or equivalent experience is preferred.
Minimum of 2 years experience in childcare, youth programming, or related field, including supervisory experience.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Passion for working with children and families in a team-oriented environment.
Ability to lift 30 pounds, stand for extended periods, and move actively with children.
