Position Summary

The Trails Groomer is responsible for maintaining and preparing outdoor trails, during winter months, by using specialized snow grooming equipment to create a safe and smooth surface for recreational activities like cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, or tubing, often operating heavy machinery like snowcats to move, compact, and shape snow on designated trails and the tubing hill, while also performing routine maintenance checks on equipment and monitoring weather conditions to adjust grooming plans accordingly.

Essential Functions

  • Grooms terrain on Dutch Henry Tubing Hill, Mineral Belt Trail, and Mount Massive Golf Course
  • Responsible for consistent grooming
  • Ability to maintain grooming standards including at night on uneven terrain and in adverse weather conditions
  • Performs general maintenance of the snowcats and informs mechanics of any issues
  • Performs other duties as assigned

All Lake County Employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker when a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of County Commissioners. To be prepared for this role, all employees and emergency service function (ESF) leads will attend emergency management trainings and exercises as requested by the Director of Emergency Management. With advanced notification from OEM, employees will make reasonable efforts to attend training events in coordination with other employees and supervisors.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a current valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must have knowledge of the skills required for properly grooming and running heavy equipment
  • Must have taken and passed the grooming portion of Ski Area Operations through Colorado Mountain College
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate running a snow cat and snowmobile
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (training available)

Physical Activity & Work Environment

  • Risks associated with working in proximity to moving machinery and equipment
  • Ability to work in harsh weather conditions during winter months, including low temperatures, snow, and ice
  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, twist
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to see close up and far away, with or without glasses or contacts
