JOB SUMMARY:

Pre-Employment Mentors guide and support small groups of associates working within community businesses, focusing on personal development, community involvement, and creating job opportunities for individuals with diverse abilities who aim for community employment. Additionally, this role involves leading associates in production work, ensuring quality standards are met, and implementing each associate’s individualized work program. This role is essential to the progression of our associates success to working in the community. Work location will vary based on department needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support, coach and guide groups of 3-4 individuals working in the community while creating and maintaining the most independent producing environment possible.
  • Develop any needed worksite adaptations, adaptive devices, and /or “jigs” to ensure that the Associate is able to learn the assigned task.
  • Document case notes showing progress toward goals.
  • Maintain awareness of associate’s interests, strengths, and needs to provide appropriate services and feedback during case review process.
  • Redirecting the associates when exhibiting inappropriate behaviors.
  • Assist in development of natural supports at work sites.
  • Transport and accompany associates to activities as needed in company vehicles.
  • Maintain good verbal and written communication to ensure all parties are kept up-to-date and informed of any changes necessary relating to associate.
  • Present and model soft skills training.
  • Generate interest and familiarity with the community through supported experiences and engagement.
  • Assist with identifying meaningful community resources.
  • Provide supports in various levels/group sizes.
  • Complete reports as directed.
  • Assign job to workers to meet their goals and abilities
  • Maintain a safe and respectful environment
  • Teach proper methods of performing job tasks
  • Assist workers in the set-up, completion and accounting various vocational tasks according to the standards set by the Case Managers and the Production Director
  • Maintain continuous quality control checks to ensure that production standards for products are being met
  • Respond to emergency situations promptly and administer First Aid or CPR/AED if needed.
  • Report any and all accidents/injuries along with filling out reports within 24 hours.
  • Always promote and maintain confidentiality of associates.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to facilitate, initiate and respond to verbal, written, computerized, telephone and fax communications.
  • Ability to demonstrate, train and/or model job tasks, duties, and responsibilities.
  • Ability to perform quality inspection according to LPP’s and/or customer’s requirements.
  • Mobility to access various locations within/outside LPP facilities.
  • Attend meetings and training as needed

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand and move about for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to reach, bend, pull, push product materials.
  • Physical ability to provide and/or respond to behavior intervention.
  • Lifting 25 – 35 lbs frequently – up to 60 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to work in an environment without air conditioning
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties.
