Larkin Hoffman is seeking to add a Patent Attorney, to join our Intellectual Property Department as either an Associate or Shareholder track Of Counsel Attorney, depending on years of experience. This position will work closely with other members of our Intellectual Property practice group to support a broad range of clients in various industries involved in the development of agricultural equipment, heavy machinery, robotics, and electromechanics. This successful candidate will possess prior experience in engineering and/or a strong technical understanding of mechanical devices, manufacturing, agricultural equipment, robotics, or electromechanical devices. We are looking for candidates with 0 - 2 years of patent experience, a strong desire to become an expert in patent prosecution matters and be admitted or able to become admitted to practice in the state of Minnesota.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent small to mid-sized clients with patent matters, including patent filings and infringement analysis.
- Work with clients to understand their ideas, innovations, inventions, advancements, etc. and provide meaningful input, solutions, and strategies on how to best protect their intellectual property.
- Conduct prior art searches, review prior art, and perform analysis of patents held by competitors of clients. Work with clients to avoid or minimize risk of patent infringement.
- Work with the firm’s patent attorneys to prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications, and help to manage patent portfolios for clients.
- Advise clients regarding trade secret protections and how they may be used to create/maintain competitive advantages.

Education and/or Experience:
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited United State law school.
- Licensed to practice law in the state of Minnesota.
- Passed the patent bar or eligible to sit for the patent bar.
- Prior experience in engineering and strong technical understanding/experience in the areas of mechanical devices, agricultural equipment, or manufacturing technologies.
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior engineer experience and a demonstrated ability to handle a variety of legal matters in the areas of patent law.
- The starting salary for this position is $160,000 and represents the firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s years of experience, qualifications, and skill set.
