Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Court Administrator and the Chief Judge, and in compliance with applicable laws, court rules and
procedures, the jury coordinator manages and coordinates the jury system in LaSalle County to provide representative juries for
petit, coroner and grand juries.
- Oversees and coordinates jury summons, notification, qualification, selection, utilization and payment. Authorizes and submits
- Coordinates and responds to judges and judicial staff’s juror requests.
- Maintains and updates juror questionnaires and status.
- Manages trial jury, which includes attendance, orientation, dismissal, work certification, and education of jurors regarding court
- Prepares work schedule and supervises jury commissioners. Authorizes and submits jury commissioner’s payroll quarterly to
- Coordinates and supervises clerical staff. Provides hiring input and evaluates jury clerk.
- Assures coverage of jury trials, grand jury and other functions such as mail preparation, data entry, reception and
- Oversees and orders inventory of office supplies, equipment and services within prescribed procedures and
- Prepares reports and statistical information by gathering, compiling and inputting data.
- Maintains and updates office procedures and training manuals for clerical staff/jury commissioners.
- Handles special projects related to the jury commission office such as preparation of budget, verification of returned
- Prepares and submits vouchers for payment to auditor.
- Maintains records such as juror questionnaires, letters, memos, trial documents, juror payroll as required by law.
- Oversees and performs yearly Illinois State Supreme Court juror load and setup.
- Oversees and performs yearly court calendar setup for jury trial dates.
- Discussions by telephone and in person with prospective jurors regarding jury service.
- Adjusts work assignments and schedules in the event of an emergency.
- Prepares reminder and failure to appear notices. Reschedules jurors not attending scheduled jury duty.
- Answers questions from attorneys, general public and other office staff regarding jury issues. Prepares profiles for
- Attends safety and judicial meetings as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned or directed.
- Maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures.
Education, Skills, Abilities and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma required.
- Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or five (5) years or more experience working in the court system or related field.
- Must be able to operate office equipment and have experience with computer software applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Principles and procedures of record keeping.
- Ability to follow direction and work independently with minimal supervision from Court Administrator.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and courtroom decorum.
- Manage staff, projects and multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Able to make sound decisions and use good judgment.
- Ability to prioritize and assign work.
- Able to communicate effectively and use interpersonal skills to interact with general public, co-workers, supervisor, vendors
- Monitor and evaluate employees.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, statutes, resolutions, regulations and statutory requirements.
- Work effectively under stress and provide leadership to resolve issues.
The Jury Coordinator must be able to learn specialized terminology, and must demonstrate an ability to apply a body of rules,
regulations, directives, or laws to various situations. The Jury Coordinator must demonstrate an acute attention to detail, be well-
organized, have exceptional time management skills and think logically under periodically large workloads and time constraints.
