Lawn & Garden in Excelsior Springs, Missouri is growing and we are adding to our production team. Come join the team in the position of Extrusion Operator. Our Extrusion operators have responsibility to produce and disposition raw tube or to extrude an additional layer or layers of PVC compound’s over reinforced tube which conforms to the standards outlined in the specifications..

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Responsible for the set up, start up (shut down/tear down) and operation of the extrusion processing equipment in a suitable amount of time
• Performs stringing extrudite down a cooling trough, around cooling drums, through an air blower and up an incline conveyor into a basket or in certain instances to the finish line
• Uses building specifications to determine the proper tooling, materials, head orientation and product dimensions
• Apply specifications appropriately in setting up and starting equipment and making adjustments to achieve product tolerances
• Continually monitor the extrusion process by performing and recording prescribed quality assurance checks and product information on basket tickets, SPC charts, and scrap tickets
• Make adjustments to maintain optimum product quality and disposition conforming and nonconforming product
• Keeps work area clean at all times, which includes picking up trash and keeping area free of debris
• Wear required safety glasses, hearing protection, and to use all other safety devices required in the area
• During weekly production startup, shutdown and in times of unexpected need, deemed necessary by management: operating a forklift, which is contingent on being a licensed forklift operator and upon operation of the device in a safe manner. (quantity of required Forklift drivers per management decision, Forklift driver fulfillment based on seniority)
• Set up or assist in setting up the strapping/banding equipment of auto coilers. Install new straps as needed
• Clear minor jams in coiling and strapping part of the auto coilers. Call for assistance for non-routine clearances or repairs
• Feed hoses and operate the auto coiler through peripheral equipment as needed
• Should be capable of starting, stopping, and running the auto coiling equipment including setting ramp up and running speeds and basic manual functions of the auto coiler
• Capable of running peripheral upstream and downstream equipment related to the extruders such as take up equipment, pay out/off equipment
• Move hoses or tubes in reels as needed
• Set up reel/spools, reel carts, etc. into the equipment and monitor and run the feed material and roll up equipment as per productive expectations

ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• 18 years of age or older required
• Ability to work on various weekends to clean machines required
• Ability to read, write and understand verbal and written job instruction
• Ability to make independent judgments/recommendations concerning finisher product
• Maintains communication with production supervisor on complex decisions or problems that are outside the range of the operator's expertise
• Maintains communication with Finishers, Utilities, Blender, Floor persons, and other personnel as requested and required to perform all job duties

• Ability to lift, carry, push and pull 50 lbs. of material required
• Ability to perform safe lifting procedures and follow all Company safety regulations required
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time in varying temperatures required
• Constant use of finger dexterity required
• Exposure to hazards associated with working in close proximity to equipment that revolves at a high rate of speed and space constraints inherent to the process
• Ability to lift extruder head parts required
• Ability to push to align extruders and troughs and disposition baskets of product required
• Ability to push and pull metal baskets on wheels weighing up to 1,000 lbs required
• Bending to wrap cooling drums required
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time in varying temperatures required

EQUIPMENT USED:

Extruders, extruder heads, various hand tools, various gauges (some of which are toolmaker’s microscope, calipers, plug gauges, PI tape), bench grinder with brush, hand drill, blowing agent supply and mixing equipment, calculator, scissors, knife and Forklift when required, as in Job Duties

MATERIALS USED:

Polyvinyl chloride compounds, blowing agent compounds, dye pellets, screens

Salary: $22.05 per hour

• 12 hour shift
