What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social/Emotional Learning (SEL) Teacher position at Lawrence Family Development Charter School?
The Social/Emotional Learning (SEL) Teacher will be responsible for teaching the fundamental principles of Social Emotional Learning. The SEL teacher will demonstrate the ability to direct students in developmentally-appropriate projects, develop SEL curriculum and collaborate with other teachers.
Responsibilities:
-Teach SEL as a special subject to students in Grade K-2 through Grade 8
-Create and plan engaging, grade-appropriate SEL lessons
-Demonstrate familiarity with state SEL and Health standards and the CASEL competencies
-Teach children how to apply the knowledge, skills and attitudes learned in SEL to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve goals
-Use a variety of instructional techniques to model SEL competencies
-Utilize culturally-responsive teaching strategies to expose students to information about diverse groups
-Design creative activities to allow students to develop the social awareness and responsible decision-making skills
-Encourage students to develop and maintain supportive relationships
-Plan and facilitate developmentally-appropriate sharing opportunities
-Maintain strong classroom management through student engagement
-Communicate with classroom teachers, parents and administrators as needed
-Work with other specialists (Music, Art, PE) and classroom teachers to develop rich standards-based interdisciplinary experiences
Experience/Qualifications:
-Master’s Degree preferred
-Certified in Health/Family Consumer Science, School Counselor or School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
-SEI endorsed or become SEI endorsed by the end of the first year
-3 years’ experience preferred
-Strong commitment to education reform initiatives, particularly raising educational equity for low-income and linguistic minority students
-Proven ability to communicate well with adults and children
-Commitment to the specific mission and goals of LFDCS
-Ability to work independently as a classroom leader and as a team member of the grade-level staff and school community
-Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
-Experience developing SEL programs for urban students of Hispanic backgrounds preferred
