The Leadership Alliance is a partnership between The Agency (Broome County IDA/LDC) and the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce and its affiliates – Visit Binghamton and the Greater Binghamton Education Outreach Program (GBEOP). Position Overview
The Financial Comptroller is a senior financial leader responsible for overseeing the financial operations, compliance, and reporting of the organization. This role ensures that all financial processes are accurate, efficient, and aligned with regulatory standards. The Comptroller will work closely with the CEO and executive leadership team to provide financial insights, manage budgets, and support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Oversight
- Manage the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Oversee all general ledger activities, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Monitor and enforce internal financial controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Budgeting and Forecasting
- Collaborate with department heads to prepare the annual budget and track performance against the budget.
- Analyze financial trends and provide forecasts to inform strategic planning.
- Compliance and Audit
- Ensure adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other relevant standards.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external audits and coordinate the preparation of audit materials.
- Manage compliance with tax filings, grant reporting, and other regulatory requirements.
- Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional development and ensuring high performance.
- Establish and document policies and procedures to optimize financial operations.
- Strategic Contributions
- Partner with senior leadership to assess financial risks and opportunities.
- Provide recommendations to improve financial efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance profitability.
Qualifications
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5-years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Skills:
- Proficient in financial software systems and advanced MS Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders.
Preferred Attributes
- Knowledge of cloud-based QuickBooks Software
- Familiarity with fund accounting or grant management
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
