Position Overview:
As a Plant EHS Manager, you will provide leadership in managing and coordinating the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs for a high-volume manufacturing facility. In this role, you will ensure the plant's compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA and EPA standards, while fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety and environmental programs that aim to reduce occupational injuries and illnesses, promote environmental sustainability, and ensure the plant’s overall compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety & Environmental Program Development:
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety and environmental programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards. Continuously assess and improve these programs to align with changing regulations.
- Injury Prevention & Investigation:
Lead efforts to reduce occupational injuries and illnesses by conducting area assessments, investigating injuries, and setting clear, measurable safety goals. Develop loss control programs based on industrial processes, safety standards, and psychological factors. Ensure corrective actions are taken to eliminate hazards.
- Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:
Serve as the primary interface with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, corporate stakeholders, and insurance carriers to maintain compliance. Oversee all OSHA and environmental regulatory reporting, record-keeping, and required documentation.
- Environmental Management Systems (EMS):
Establish and maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 18001-compliant Environmental and Safety Management Systems. Report HSE performance to top management, recommending and implementing improvements to achieve safety and environmental goals.
- Audits & Inspections:
Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess the plant's compliance with environmental regulations. Identify and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks and improve safety and environmental performance.
- Budget & Resource Management:
Develop and manage the HSE budget, including costs for safety equipment, consulting services, waste removal, and safety training programs. Ensure cost-effective allocation of resources while maintaining compliance and safety standards.
- Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis:
Lead investigations into environmental or safety non-compliance and incidents. Perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and oversee the reporting process to ensure that incidents are resolved and corrective measures are in place to prevent recurrence.
- Training & Safety Awareness:
Design and lead safety, HSE, and environmental awareness programs to ensure that all associates are trained in safety protocols and compliance measures. Foster a strong safety culture throughout the plant.
- Environmental Impact Reduction:
Drive initiatives to reduce environmental waste, including solutions for waste management, water and air quality control, and resource conservation. Implement sustainable practices that contribute to the company’s long-term environmental goals.
- Compliance Expertise:
Maintain in-depth knowledge of relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, ensuring the facility's compliance with all applicable rules and standards, including waste management, air emissions, wastewater, stormwater management, and pollution prevention.
Health and Safety Expertise:
- Behavior-based safety (preferably DuPont STOP)
- Chemical hazard communication, contractor safety, confined space entry
- Electrical safety, emergency response planning, ergonomics
- Fall protection, Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO), hearing conservation
- Incident investigation, indoor air quality, industrial hygiene
- Job hazard analysis, machine guarding, powered industrial vehicles
- OSHA compliance and safety programs awareness
Environmental Expertise:
- Sustainable processes and recycling initiatives
- Solid and hazardous waste management, wastewater and stormwater compliance
- Air emission management, pollution prevention, and resource conservation
- Environmental permitting, compliance, and control measures
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of HSE experience in a manufacturing environment
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
