What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tutor - Math/STEM position at Lewis and Clark Community College?
Scope of Position
Provide the academic support services and instruction necessary to assist learners in the attainment of their basic education and career related goals.
Key Measurable Expectations (KMEs)
The following are duties that are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.
- Tutor students in the Student Success Center for Engineering Pathways students in classes such as Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, and Differential Equations to improve student success and retention;
- Mentor student tutors’ abilities to ensure students receive consistent and useful assistance;
- Implement interventions for students identified as at-risk of withdrawing from courses or programs;
- Communicate with program coordinators, staff faculty, and site managers to maximize overall program effectiveness;
- Participate in self-assessment and professional development and support College-wide initiatives;
- Schedule help sessions for students on specific content area topics
- Establish student support group activities;
- Communicate with, and refer students to appropriate student support services as determined by student’s need.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- Associates Degree;
- Demonstrated ability to teach/tutor preferably at a community college;
- Demonstrated commitment to our community college mission;
- Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and individual diversity and values.
Preferred Qualifications
- Baccalaureate Degree;
- Experience with Blackboard or other course management software.
Team Members can expect to be paid an hourly rate of $18.33.
In accordance with the Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act (PLFAWA), effective January 1, 2024, eligible part-time team members* working for the College are entitled to paid leave.
