General Summary : Under general supervision, provides parent education to parents of at-risk preschool aged children, through one-on-one home visitations and group meetings in school settings. Emphasis is placed on school readiness goals and other factors influencing overall well being of children. Essential Functions :

  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
  • Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
  • Attends professional development training as needed to maintain required state and federal certifications. These certifications include, but are not limited to PAT (Parents as Teachers), ASQ (Ages and Stages Questionnaire); ACIRI (Adult-Child Interactive Reading Inventory). LSP (Life Skills Progression), HFPI (Healthy Family Parenting Inventory) certifications.
  • Attends staff development meetings as scheduled by supervisor or district personnel.
  • Schedules and conducts home visits offering timely information on child development, parenting skills and age appropriate activities for children.
  • Establishes a positive rapport with families and maintains confidentiality.
  • Conducts needs assessment with each family to determine current strengths and areas of need.
  • Conducts a complete screening of each child participant.
  • Develops age appropriate lesson plans for families, using the PAT national curriculum standards.
  • Assesses family needs continually and makes appropriate referrals to necessary agencies or professionals in the community, such as Baby Net, DSS, DHEC, Housing Authority, etc.
  • Maintains daily travel log to include dates, times, and parent names of all home visits, in addition to maintaining monthly time sheets.
  • Maintains accurate records of all program components including workshops, home visits to include Personal Visit Record, noting progress and difficulties in each of the four domains of development, updating Milestones Checklist, screening, and adult education / literacy participation.
  • Assists with data collection to ensure outcome-based services are provided.
  • Assists families with transition from home to school
  • Assists families with transition to school personnel by maintaining relationships with school counseling, 4K staff, nurses, and other school staff.
  • Alerts the supervisor to any problems or special information about individual families.
  • Assists with volunteer and community agency activities.
  • Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Effectively uses personal technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education / Work Experience :

  • High School Diploma; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • 2 years previous supervised work experience with young children and / or parents.
  • Knowledge / Skills : Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district that pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and operations. Knowledge of requirements of state and federal parenting programs. Knowledge of and ability to implement methods for training parents and children. Knowledge of the records and reports that must be prepared and maintained. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to demonstrate high-level application of technology devices in the performance of daily activities. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation and utilization of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, colleagues and all other stakeholders involved in the activities of the job. Ability to work effectively with individual families in small groups. Achieves necessary certifications within the first few months of employment. Working Conditions : Duties are performed in an office or home setting with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to work requiring occasional lifting / moving of items up to twenty-five pounds. Occasional travel is required. Responsibility : No direct budgetary or supervisory responsibility. Evaluation : Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the school board’s policy on evaluation of support personnel.
