What are the responsibilities and job description for the Batch & Furnace Supervisor position at Libbey?
The Batch & Furnace Supervisor is accountable for supervising hourly personnel engaged in all phases of Libbey’s manufacturing plants batch, furnace and lehr operations, in Toledo, OH.
The Batch & Furnace Supervisor will provide direct supervision and leadership of the batch mixing and batch delivery systems, furnace and lehr operations through the most efficient use of manpower, equipment and energy to provide high levels of technical service, while working in partnership with the Forming Department. Responsible for technical competence, knowledge and skills necessary for the overall performance for the batching operations, furnace operations, and lehr operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Supply the Forming Department with consistent, properly conditioned glass flow while maintaining good glass color and maximizing melting fuel efficiency.
Manage the forehearths and the production of various colors in the colorant forehearths.
Ensure that all ware made in forming is properly annealed and heat treated as scheduled.
Supply forming with a steady flow of cracked hydrogen gas.
Maintain an uninterrupted flow of uniformly weighed and mixed batch material to the furnaces.
Analyze and correct any production problems that develop.
Maintain consistent furnace and forehearth operations at the desired temperatures during changing load conditions as determined by the production schedule.
Maintain crystal glass color and produce different colored glass from crystal in the colorant forehearths.
Supply the furnaces with the required amount of mixed batch to maintain a level flow of glass to all forming machines.
Ensure all ware is annealed within specifications and that heat treated items receive a proper heat-treated pattern.
Supply forming with a consistent stream of cracked hydrogen gas for the burn off machines.
Respond to all emergencies, to include glass leaks, power failures, fires, gas leaks, accidents and injuries.
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma required; Associates degree preferred
At least 5 years of experience as a supervisor/working foreman in an industrial environment
Proficiency in root cause analysis and familiarity of LEAN concepts
Demonstrated leadership abilities and strong interpersonal skills
Computer proficiency is required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position will be subject to hot, cold, and dusty environments
Required to successfully complete a respirator fit & pulmonary function test
Successful performance of Ishihara Plates vision test for color perception
Required to wear proper PPE at all times (safety glasses & hearing protection)
Ability to work at heights on ladders and elevated platforms
