Utility Mill Operator

This position gives you the unique opportunity to work with both. You will be scheduled on a rotating NIGHT shift 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. of 2 days on 2 days off, 3 days on 3 days off, with every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, & Sunday) off.

Role Description:

Utility Mill Operator

Performs a variety of tasks as directed by the Lead Pellet Mill Operator or Production Manager. This position will be instructed on how to independently operate the pellet mill / loader in the absence of the Mill / Loader operator. This individual will fill in for night shift Pellet Mill / Loader operators when they are on vacation and will receive the operator premium rate of pay.

Demonstrate Competence:

• Comply with safety policies and practices and participate in the plant Safety Program.
• Responsible for assisting the Pellet Mill operator in operating and adjusting pellet mills.
• Responsible for assisting the Pellet Mill operator in running Dryer Inlet and outlet temperatures and their regulation.
• Responsible for assisting the Pellet Mill operator in troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, spot fires, and hot bearings.
• Responsible for assisting the Pellet Mill operator in maintaining pellet mill feed rates and adjust or change pellet mill rolls/dies accordingly
• Responsible for maintaining watch over bin levels.
• Regulate material mix to obtain the optimal pellet moisture and pellet density ratio.
• Will enter production information into the database.

• Shift Report outlining the average pellet moisture and density at the end of the shift, total pellet mill hours, natural gas hours and estimate of tonnage.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment for self and all team members and equipment through daily maintenance, 5S, and housekeeping activities.
• Adhere to quality standards and procedures, supporting the program and promoting quality within the operation.
• Participates, collaborates, and complies with all company maintenance programs and practices.
• In addition to any other duties that may be assigned by the Production Manager

Qualifications/Education:

• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including maintenance practices
• Ability to determine the kinds of tools and equipment needed to do a job
• Ability to read/watch gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
• Requires working knowledge of all aspects of the production process.
• Requires a high degree of technical, analytical, and leadership skills.
• Must be able to pass the company forklift certification.
• Basic computer skills
• High School diploma or GED preferred.

Physical attributes:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Safely, nearly waist-high, and stand for up to 12 hours per day.
• Requires ability to use catwalks and climb ladders that connect catwalks up to 30 feet high.
• Requires mechanical and troubleshooting skills to solve pellet mill maintenance problems.
• Requires the ability to do simple to complex math calculations. Must be able to work in a high temperature/ humidity area.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
