Job Description – Physical Education Teacher
This position will be a contracted, part-time position (Wednesday-Friday) with base standard hours of 7:30 am to 3:30pm daily. Salary will be set annually on a performance-based schedule. All teachers will report to the principal.
Major Function
Lionheart Classical has been offering Tuition-Free, Classical Education since 2022. Our mission is to train the minds and inspire the hearts of our students through a classical Liberal Arts and Sciences education that supports academic achievement, virtuous living, and responsible citizenship. Our vision is to be a nationally regarded K-12 classical school and serve as a local, regional, and national leader for the growth and promotion of a content-rich, knowledge-based curriculum for students. This position has responsibility for designing and implementing lessons in physical education that trains the minds and inspires the hearts of our students through the active engagement of their bodies.
The Physical Education teacher’s essential duties and responsibilities are as follows:
- Demonstrating an understanding of and commitment to classical education and the vision, mission, virtues, and philosophy of the school, and consistently developing, fostering, and advancing these concepts in students.
- Demonstrating understanding and mastery of central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structure of physical education, and effectively transmitting this knowledge to students, and making the subject matter meaningful to students.
- Developing and maintaining a climate and culture of openness, fairness, mutual respect, kindness, support, and inquiry.
- Engaging every student in grade level-appropriate learning experiences that promote performance and intellectual and moral development.
- Demonstrating respect for students, colleagues, administrators, and parents.
- Modeling and reinforcing good judgment, prudence, self-discipline, responsibility, and all other virtues.
- Working effectively with school leadership and colleagues, parents, and the community to support students’ learning and well-being.
- Collaborating with other faculty and school administration to develop and implement a strategic plan for continuously improving instruction and student growth.
- Providing students and parents with timely data for improvement in student achievement.
- Using formal and informal assessment strategies to determine whether students have achieved high standards and modifying instructional strategies as needed to maximize achievement.
- Demonstrating an understanding of how students learn and providing learning opportunities that support intellectual, social, and personal development of diverse learners.
- Establishing and maintaining a safe and secure classroom environment.
- Managing student misconduct promptly and resolving conflict and crises effectively.
- Promoting both independent and collaborative work ethics.
- Seeking resources necessary to achieve classroom and school goals, such as course materials that match the content and learning/ability levels of students.
- Using appropriate technology in teaching and learning processes, record keeping, assessment, evaluation, and performance analysis.
- Demonstrating positive classroom results and trends.
- Maintaining a clean, tidy, and organized physical education room and storage space.
- Performing other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
- Knowledge and competency in K-12 physical education.
- Understanding and knowledge of child development.
- Displays an understanding of classical education and a desire to learn more
- Portrays the following characteristics: passion for teaching, love for students, personal knowledge and motivation, organizational skills, and creativity
