Job Summary:
The Senior Staff Accountant will oversee the preparation and maintenance of financial records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. This role involves managing complex financial activities, providing guidance to junior accounting staff, and collaborating with senior management to support financial decision-making.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Mentor junior accounting staff.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist the Controller and other senior accounting staff with routine financial tasks.
- Assist in developing cost accounting processes related to warehousing division.
- Prepare detailed monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and balance sheets.
- Conduct comprehensive bank reconciliations monthly.
- Assist in the month-end and year-end closing cycles.
- Reconcile cash disbursement accounts, customer accounts, and other financial accounts.
- Verify and approve payment of invoices, ensuring appropriate account charges.
- Interface with all departments to ensure accurate and efficient accounting information recording.
- Develop a strong understanding of core business functions to act as liaison between operational and accounting teams.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Prepare and review financial reports for management and regulatory purposes.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial modeling (Pivot Tables, Lookup functions, etc.).
- Proficiency with financial software and ERP systems.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects.
- In-depth knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Strong understanding of and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field, required.
- At least six years of related experience, with a preference for senior or supervisory roles.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
