What are the responsibilities and job description for the MRI Rad Technologist position at Loretto Hospital?

JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, performs diagnostic procedures in MRI and Radiology with the sound understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology so that independent selection and modification of the technical factors may produce optimal results. Performs independent diagnostic imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of the technical details.

Hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. Preferred for candidate to have availability for last minute staffing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Customer Service: Provides and gives cooperative and courteous service to patients, visitors, staff, physicians, volunteers, and other internal/external customers. Ensures that all communications and job activities result in a positive customer experience.
  2. Performs appropriate MRI procedures independently under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner. 
  3. Monitors and maintains protocols and staff compliance with departmental standards.
  4. Corroborates patient identification, pertinent clinical history, procedure request and informed consent, ensuring that information is documented in the patient’s medical record and available for use by a licensed independent practitioner.
  5. Applies principles of MRI safety for patient safety.
  6. Determines that all procedural requirements are completed including patient and equipment preparation.
  7. Identifies, prepares, and administers intravenous contrast as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  8. Independently determines imaging technique and evaluates images for technical quality, optimal anatomy evaluation and complete, accurate documentation.
  9. Identifies emergency situations and determines the course of action to resolve the emergency or problem circumstance.
  10. Provides patient education including the procedure details, contrast administration and other related information.
  11. Performs all MRI procedures with appropriate accessory equipment including immobilization devices and radiation shields.
  12. Evaluates patient’s medical status prior to performing MRI procedures including allergies, laboratory results and pregnancy determination.
  13. Always observes general safety precautions.
  14. Participates in formal in-service training programs of the MRI department, keeping abreast of new procedures, equipment, and methodologies.
  15. Maintains adequate records, i.e., identity of patient, date and examination, requesting physician, and or any pertinent information in appropriate locations.
  16. Manages own time in a productive and reliable manner completing work assignments.
  17. Completes appropriate volume of work while maintaining quality standards.
  18. Provides assistance to others as needed.
  19. Cooperates with coworkers and management to maintain a harmonious environment and assists in solving customer problems in a cooperative manner.
  20. Adjusts work schedule to accommodate changing priorities.
  21. Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner including patient transport.
  22. Utilizes proper body mechanics in all job functions.
  23. Follows established emergency, infection control and/or universal precautions procedures as required.
  24. Maintains work area and equipment according to standards and or policies.
  25. Attends mandatory in-service related to safety and/or infection control.
  26. Supports and participates in department quality improvement activities.
  27. Provides courteous service to internal/external customers in all activities.
  28. Offers assistance to all internal/external customers as appropriate and/or refers customer to appropriate individual or department.
  29. Communicates in a professional manner emphasizing objective, non-judgmental viewpoints and teamwork.
  30. Demonstrates required knowledge and skills to effectively consider individual`s diagnosis, diverse culture, religious beliefs and age.
  31. Obtains pertinent information from different age groups of patients and appropriately interprets information for assessment.
  32. Performs MRI procedures according to age-appropriate guidelines.
  33. Evaluates environmental safety and provides an environment that is safe based on age and development status.
  34. Performs other related duties as assigned. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required.   • Evidence of attendance in MRI course approved by the ARRT.
  • Must be A.R.R.T registered or Registry-Eligible.
  • Maintain current CPR License required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk as well as occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Using proper body mechanics, the employee may be expected to lift, pull, push or move patients and/or equipment.  Fine motor skills are required when using hands and fingers to handle, feel or reach.   Normal or corrected vision, hearing and ability to speak are necessary.  Specific vision abilities required include close vision, sharp eye focus and ability to distinguish colors.  There will be period of stressful intense concentration with more than average pressure used in a variety of problem-solving situations.
