What You Will Do
The Associate Laboratory Directorate, Plutonium Infrastructure (ALDPI), at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) manages the execution of major capital projects related to infrastructure required to meet plutonium pit production deliverables. This is an opportunity for an exceptional project professional to work directly with senior leadership to ensure execution of the new Plutonium Infrastructure Directorate capital construction project portfolio. The Directorate is at the center of execution of capital projects in and around the Los Alamos National Laboratory's plutonium pit production facilities for U.S. nuclear weapons and is focused on sustaining the current stockpile; providing life extensions of the stockpile; and helping to ensure the safety, security, and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear deterrent. Reporting to a Project-Program Director in the Project Execution Readiness (PROJ-EXEC), this position is critically important to the safe and efficient implementation of programmatic elements within ALDPI.
Manager of Projects 5
The Manager of Projects (MOP) 5 will provide the capabilities and relevant Laboratory elements to successfully deliver excellence in safe execution of construction projects and assure performance against relevant prime contract elements. Specifically, you may be assigned as the lead project manager, assist in all planning and execution activities, and serve as line manager for all deployed Project Managers and other functions in support of executing all phases of project execution. This position will report administratively to a Program Director in PROJ-EXEC.

Demonstrated leadership and management (organize, direct, control) of a technically oriented project management team in the execution of all levels of projects, including supervision and development of employees. Advanced experience managing programmatic elements for large scale projects. Demonstrated successful experience identifying potential project risks, developing risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions, and recommending risk acceptance/avoidance for all aspects of a project.
Technical Excellence
Thorough knowledge and demonstrated experience managing nuclear facility and or programmatic project work. Project experience with DOE O 413.3B projects or equivalent system of requirements. Expert knowledge and expertise in the areas of construction, engineering, procurement, performance assurance, project risk management or other project-related activities, including their interfaces and inter-dependencies. Advanced broad knowledge of industry standards.
Experience and demonstrated skill in directing cost engineering functions, including cost estimating, cost control, and cost analysis. Experience and demonstrated skill in directing, planning, and scheduling functions, including schedule development, controlling and reporting on the status of the project, and analysis. Experience and demonstrated skill in establishing criteria for project controls activities. Responsible for effective execution of project controls programs on an assigned project in accordance with project controls departmental procedures.
Management
Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership, mentorship, prioritization, and management of assigned employees in a collaborative and participative environment to build strong teams. Demonstrated experience and skill developing and implementing organizational strategies and objectives.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong and effective customer relations. Education/Experience for Manager of Projects 5: Position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. (If no bachelor's degree, 20 years of experience.)
