The Associate Laboratory Directorate, Plutonium Infrastructure (ALDPI), at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) manages the execution of major capital projects to update the infrastructure required to meet plutonium pit production deliverables. The Directorate is at the center of execution of capital projects in and around the Los Alamos National Laboratory's plutonium pit production facilities for U.S. nuclear weapons and is focused on updating the facility infrastructure in support of sustaining the current stockpile; providing life extensions of the stockpile; and helping to ensure the safety, security, and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear deterrent. This is an opportunity for an exceptional project professional that will work directly with directorate leadership to ensure execution of the Balance of Plant (BOP) Division capital construction project portfolio. Reporting to the Project Program Director for BOP, this position is critically important to the safe and efficient execution of infrastructure improvement projects.
As the Manager of Projects (MOP) 5, you will provide the capabilities and relevant Laboratory elements to successfully deliver excellence in safe execution of construction projects and assure performance against relevant prime contract elements. Specifically, you are expected to be the lead project manager, assist in all planning and execution activities, and serve as line manager for all deployed Project Managers and other functions in support of executing all phases of Capital Projects. This position will report administratively to one of the Project-Program Directors in Plutonium Infrastructure.
You will assist with Integrated Safety Management (ISM) and serve as the alternate line manager performing all aspects of personnel management, including but not limited to: recruiting, employee hiring and on-boarding processes, managing headcount, forecasting and budget(s) associated with group, directing assignments, training, providing continuous performance management including annual performance discussions, identification of growth opportunities and ensuring proper team recognition and appreciation. Work with the Program Director, to define the scope of the portfolios and develop strategies and plans to address project needs. This includes developing resource needs, logistics, and assistance to management on matters dealing with Laboratory policies and procedures to ensure compliance, implements project management policies, plans, and programs for the orderly execution of projects including monitoring the execution of deliverables.

Demonstrated successful experience identifying potential project risks, developing risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions, and recommending risk acceptance/avoidance for all aspects of a project.

Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership, mentorship, prioritization, and management of assigned employees in a collaborative and participative environment to build strong teams. Demonstrated experience and skill developing and implementing organizational strategies and objectives.
Technical Excellence
Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience managing nuclear facility and or programmatic project work. Project experience with DOE O 413.3B projects or equivalent system of requirements. Expert knowledge and expertise in the areas of construction, engineering, procurement and other project-related activities, including their interfaces and inter- dependencies. Strong understanding of financial analysis and planning concepts. Management experience in all project management functions-including formal EVMS. Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience in project management of technical or operational work including developing project execution plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages; managing to scope, schedule, budget, and technical baselines; and documenting baseline reports and change control actions. Advanced broad knowledge of industry standards.
