Pool Supervisor (Part-time)
Job Description:
The Louisa County Aquatic Facility Supervisor has complete responsibility for the daily operation, supervision, general maintenance and staff of the aquatic facility. The employee should help to create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with LCPRT policies and procedures. Builds positive relationships with patrons and program participants through effective listening and verbal skills and creatively finds ways to connect them to one another and the community.
Reports To: Recreation Supervisor
Supervises: Head Guards, Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Admissions and Concessions Staff
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience guarding.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations.
- Knowledge of safety procedures, rules and regulations for the swimming pool facility.
- Skill in handling money and working with people.
- Ability to communicate clearly with patrons.
- Perform First Aid when needed.
- Complete written reports.
- Ability to present a professional, positive, and helpful attitude always when interacting with County employees, co-workers, and the public.
- Exhibits an understanding of functions as a “team player”.
- Requires strong interpersonal skills.
Essential Duties:
The Aquatic Facility Supervisor is responsible for pre-season duties, which include, but are not limited to:
- Hire admissions and concessions staff, lifeguards and swim instructors with LCPRT Recreation Supervisor.
- Develop staff schedule.
- Develop staff training and training schedule.
- Verify all lifeguards' certifications and inoculations per the Virginia Board of Health. Develop trainings to ensure all requirements are met, in the event that a lifeguard needs training.
- Maintain all employee files.
- Develop a schedule of activities, special events, and rentals with the LCPRT Recreation Supervisor.
- Stock all safety supplies including biohazard, MSDA sheets and response, EAP, AED, and first aid supplies.
- Coordinate swimming lessons and develop necessary trainings, certifications, equipment and documentations needed.
- Develop in-service training and skills sessions schedule for all staff.
The Aquatic Facility Supervisor is responsible for duties during the pool season, which include, but are not limited to:
- Unlocking all doors and turning on lights upon opening.
- Interacting with the public in a professional and pleasant manner.
- Following through with all complaints and issues that arise daily.
- Maintain a consistent staff schedule with no coverage lapses.
- Maintaining inventory and storage of pool chemicals.
- Verifying status of pool chemicals in regular intervals and verifying that pools chlorine holders are full.
- Backwashing pool as necessary.
- Delegating to the lifeguards to vacuum pools daily.
- Priming pumps when necessary.
- Maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment. Order supplies through the LCPRT Recreation Supervisor when low.
- Maintaining concession stand inventory weekly and reorder through LCPRT Recreation Supervisor.
- Ensuring that the start-up admission and concession drawers are accurate and that deposits are completed and turned in at the end of every shift.
- Completing monthly employee performance evaluations.
- Developing an incentive reward program for staff and tallying up points earned on a weekly basis.
- Ordering items for incentive programs.
- Planning and scheduling staff parties.
- Effectively managing employee behaviors through appropriate disciplinary action as necessary and regular communication on how to improve work behaviors to avoid disciplinary action, if necessary.
- Monitoring the cleanliness of the facility at all times, which includes, parking lot, front gate, admissions area, restrooms, storage rooms, pool deck, and pools.
- Delegating cleaning tasks to staff as necessary.
- Managing employee behaviors during work hours and having the ability to keep them focused and on task at all times.
- Maintaining regular communication with all staff in regards to day-to-day occurrences, policy changes, new policies, customer complaints, etc.
- Verifying that trash has been emptied at the end of the shift from each trash receptacle, restrooms have been cleaned and stocked appropriately, lights are off, chairs are stacked, umbrellas are down and secured, and facility is empty of employees and patrons prior to securing all doors and the gate at the close of business.
The Aquatics Facility Supervisor is responsible for end of season duties, which include, but are not limited to the following:
- Filing all reports (Maintenance, Incident, Patron, Supervisor Logs, Swim Lessons, etc.)
- Cleaning all equipment, drying and storing for the off-season in the equipment room.
- Sorting through all papers, lost and found items, and re-organizing for storage.
- Submitting employee records to the LCPRT Recreation Supervisor..
- Securing pool cover on all pools.
- Stacking deck chairs and umbrellas in the restrooms during the off-season.
- Inspecting and properly storing rescue equipment in equipment room during off-season.
- Removing all notices in office and filing or discarding accordingly.
- Power washing pool deck and entryway.
- Cleaning out admissions and concession cabinets and drawers.
- Stocking concession items not sold in the BQC for use at other events.
- Cleaning and organizing Zamboni room.
