Job Description:
The GeneLab Manager coordinates research and development efforts and services provided by the SVM Division of Biotechnology & Molecular Medicine COre Laboratory Genelab and is responsible for maintaining and assessing equipment needs and assets. New development efforts include the managing of virtual training courses and access to bioinformatics tools, software, pipelines, and management of services provided by external vendors.
Job Responsibilities:
- 25%- Performs technical work required for the molecular biology core laboratory Genelab of the SVM Division of Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine (BioMMED). This work includes performing nucleic acid sequencing reactions, setting up high throughput sequencing reactions, analysis of RNA/DNA samples for quantity and quality necessary for downstream testing, assisting with the operations and maintenance of all centralized equipment of the core laboratory. This work includes supervision of student workers supporting all Genelab functions and a research associate (future addition).
- 20%- Performing all Single-Cell library construction for Next Generation Sequencing efforts. This includes utilizing the Chromium Controller from 10X Genomics and maintenance associated with this unit. Next Gen Sequencing projects involve meetings with Principal Investigators to schedule experimental milestones and guidance in sample preparation. As new applications from 10X Genomics become available, more training is undertaken to offer new services.
- 20%- Manages all iLAB aspects of the core laboratory and associated Cost Center: These duties include ordering supplies, billing clients, tracking expenses, inventory of supplies, ensuring requests are completed in a timely fashion and marked Complete for invoicing, etc. The financial aspects of the work are performed in conjunction with the BioMMED business officer. New service templates are created for all new services and added into iLAB, GeneLab's web-based ordering system. Rate Sheets are kept current and forwarded to campus for approval. Assists all researchers with iLAB registration and requests. Duties include managing the inclusion of all BioMMED core activities as well as PBS Core Activities into iLab.
- 20%- Performs research involving Next Generation Technologies as part of a team supported by extramural funding. Submits grants as a Co-PI with other Vet. Med. Faculty.
- 10%- Coordination and management of technical seminars, virtual training courses and hands-on training for faculty, postdocs and students and keeps a log of all training exercises required GeneLab's involvement in two new COBRE applications managed by BioMMED. Provides access to training modules available through LBRN and supports researchers needing these resources. Monitors license usage of Bioinformatics tools and facilitates access to high-end analysis pipelines.
- 5%- Operation of Core instruments using the SOPs. Responsible for inventory lists for all GeneLab equipment. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in related field and two years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in related field and 4 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in related field and 5 years of related experience in next GEN sequencing technologies for Biomedical research.
Special and Physical Qualifications:
Requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching (above shoulder), reaching (below shoulder), vision (near sight), vision (far sight), twisting, pushing/pulling, grasping, squatting, and lifting less than 50 pounds.
