Court Security Officer 1
Nature of Work:
To provide security for the building, grounds, and personnel of the Court of Appeal. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Security Director or Court Security Officer 2. Work is evaluated through review of security reports, feedback from court personnel, inspection of radio and firearms, observations of professional dress and demeanor, and adherence to security procedures.
Examples of Work:

· Inspect/secure building, grounds, and parking lot upon arrival for duty before business hours and after close of business.
· Operate Control Desk; monitor cameras on the interior and perimeter of the building for surveillance; respond to alarms on computer, accesses door locks with computer and monitor card reader system.
· Operate the magnetometer and fluoroscope at the checkpoint desk to scan non-employees for dangerous weapons, explosives, or recording devices sometimes hand checking visitors and bags.
· Greet employees and visitors as they enter court buildings and direct visitors as necessary.
· Respond appropriately to any security-related problem such as fire alarms, suspicious mail, complaints, altercations, etc.
· Conduct preliminary investigations relevant to any disturbances which occur on the premises and relieve and assist other security officers as needed.
· Provide security for those employees working after hours as well as escorting them to their vehicles.
· Patrol the grounds and buildings for illegal entry of unauthorized persons, as necessary or assigned.
· Check the building, secure doors, and monitor for possible fire hazards.
· Provide security for judges when traveling outside of the building, or remote events, as requested or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of security regulations and procedures.
· Knowledge of rules of evidence.
· Skill in care and use of firearms and other security equipment.
· The ability to exert force, as necessary, to apprehend and/or detain individuals in order to make an arrest or remove, from premises.
· The ability to stand or sit for long periods. Ability to walk, talk, listen, hear, climb, run, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach with hands and arms, and smell as necessary to detect security risks and respond to security issues.
· The ability to see up close, at a distance, in color and peripherally as necessary to read computer monitors, identify suspicious persons, and generally watch for security breaches or risks.
Qualification Requirements:
· Current POST certification.
· Three years’ law enforcement experience. Possession of a valid Louisiana driver’s license, clean driving record, and no felony convictions.
