As a Barback at The Palm House, you will play an essential supporting role within our bar team. Your primary responsibility is to assist bartenders in ensuring the bar runs smoothly, efficiently, and that guests enjoy an exceptional experience. This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is organized, and has a strong sense of teamwork.

• Stocking and Restocking:

  • Keep the bar fully stocked with liquor, beer, wine, garnishes, glassware, napkins, straws, and other necessary supplies.
  • Ensure the bar area is well-organized and clean by replenishing inventory as needed throughout the shift.

• Supporting Bartenders:

  • Assist bartenders with preparing drinks, garnishing cocktails, and ensuring the bar is well-equipped to handle busy periods.
  • Handle customer orders promptly, serve non-alcoholic beverages, and help prepare drink orders when necessary.

• Cleanliness and Organization:

  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the bar area, including washing glassware, utensils, and equipment used in cocktail preparation.
  • Ensure the back of house (inventory storage areas) is organized and stocked for easy access.
  • Clean spills, empty trash bins, and perform regular checks of the bar area to keep everything tidy.

• Customer Interaction:

  • Greet guests as they approach the bar and offer excellent customer service.
  • Communicate effectively with bartenders to anticipate the needs of customers.
  • Assist in delivering drinks to customers, ensuring accuracy and speed.

• Assisting with Ice & Glassware:

  • Ensure a continuous supply of ice and clean glassware for bartenders and guests.
  • Organize and ensure glassware is polished and stored correctly.

• Safety and Sanitation:

  • Ensure that the bar area adheres to all health and safety regulations.
  • Follow proper sanitation procedures for glassware, utensils, and equipment.

• Preparing for Service:

  • Assist with opening and closing duties for the bar, including preparing the bar for service and cleaning up after closing.
  • Help bartenders prepare for busy periods, setting up the bar with the necessary tools, ingredients, and supplies.

• Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Assist in any other tasks to support the bar team and ensure a smooth operation of the bar, such as helping to load/unload deliveries, restocking items, etc.

• Experience:

  • Previous experience in the hospitality industry is preferred but not required.
  • Experience as a barback or in a similar support role is a plus.

• Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow directions.
  • A good understanding of basic bar tools and supplies.
  • Ability to work long hours, including nights and weekends.

• Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a noisy and busy environment.
  • Must be able to move efficiently behind the bar and among guests.
