The RCP must demonstrate the ability to assess, treat and care for patients who suffer from acute and chronic abnormalities of the respiratory system. The individual will have the skills and knowledge level required to provide care to patients as delineated in their scope of services under the direction of a physician.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Administers routine respiratory therapy modalities (HHN, IPPB, MDI, sputum induction, BPH, PFT, volume expansion, smoking cessation, etc.)
  • Performs arterial puncture and blood gas analysis
  • Sets up, operates and monitors all equipment according to policy (ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, aerosol, etc)
  • Maintains timely and accurate patient charting
  • Assists with patient education in areas relating to respiratory care (HME set-up)
  • Properly utilizes Medication Administration Wizard when delivering medication
  • Assists with code blue, cardioversions, standby and acts appropriately (airway maintenance and intervention)
  • Monitors supplies and restocks as needed
  • Participates in quality control program, daily monitoring and maintenance of blood gas instruments
  • Reviews EMR for updated patient information
  • Initiates, monitors and maintains oxygen and humidified therapy
  • Performs pulmonary function testing
  • Evidences the knowledge and ability to assess and interpret data about the patient’s growth and development in order to identify each patients needs and provide the appropriate care, including age-related care, where appropriate.

  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions; ensures compliance with Joint Commission and other external and internal regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employee’s job duties. Also maintains confidentiality of other customer and hospital business affairs.
  • Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; Shows respect for co-workers by following established break times; Keeps personal conversations and telephone calls to a minimum.
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited school of Respiratory Care.
  • Ability to provide care as appropriate to age of population served.
  • Proficient in safely providing all routine and emergent respiratory modalities.
  • Ability to provide accurate and appropriate electronic documentation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians and hospital personnel at all levels.
  • Basic PC proficiency.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Self directed and energetic.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Congenial personality/good customer service skills.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in RT or related field
  • Minimum 1 year hospital based experience

Certifications and Licenses Requirements:


Required:

  • Current licensure to practice as a RCP in the state of Ohio
  • Minimum certification as a CRT by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Current BLS* certification

  • BLS certification is required upon hire. All certifications required in this job description must be maintained by the employee throughout their employment.

Preferred:

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
