FUNCTION
Performs a variety of millwright/mechanic/pipefitter/welder/fabricator services to maintain facility physical condition, operation, cleanliness and safety.
DESCRIPTION:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- On call position.
- Diagnoses, troubleshoots, dismantles, inspects, repairs and reassembles plant equipment.
- Performs preventative maintenance and replaces worn or defective parts. Fabricates new parts as necessary. Maintains facility equipment in good working order.
- Performs boiler maintenance and repair. Welds, cuts, bends, rolls and cleans tubing and installs insulation.
- Designs, fabricates and installs additional equipment or parts for existing equipment.
- Installs, aligns, grouts and connects and balances equipment as required.
- Inspects, repairs or modifies existing tools.
- Rigs and operates various material handling equipment, such as skid steer, forklift, front end loader, and trucks. Performs rigging operations to remove or replace equipment, operates stationary, bridge and mobile type cranes.
- Builds scaffolding, cleans up work areas, and provides safety surveillance for job activities.
- Performs rolling stock preventative maintenance.
- Cleans, paints, preserves and lubricates facility equipment.
- Maintains records, records data and material use. Maintains spare parts. Assist in maintaining replacement and expendable part inventories.
- Generates work orders as required.
- Provides on-the-job training.
- Maintain support for facility Operators, other Millwrights and E&I Technicians, assisting as needed. May be required to assist in other non-related skill or trade to maintain safe and efficient plant operation. Assist operation in the performances of operational duties as assigned, such as crane operation.
- Perform any of the following:
- Basic machining
- Welding and fitting
- Proper use of cutting torch
- Basic pipe fitting
- Metal fabrication
- Painting
- Equipment Repair and Replacement
- Supervise outside contractors as necessary.
- Upon qualification fills in for Auxiliary Operator and/or Control Room Operator vacancies and absences.
- Runs errands for facility related matters.
- Performs other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Speak, read, write and understand English.
- Possess a valid Class “C” Maine vehicle license.
- Ability to take, follow and give oral and written instructions.
- Must be able to frequently climb ladders; enter confined spaces; climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways at elevations of 75 feet and more; crawl through confined areas; work from man lifts; moderate to heavy lifting required. Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; climb vertical access ladders and stairwells; work in the plant in hot conditions; must be able to wear a respirator and use other personal protective equipment and other safety equipment as required.
- Possess general knowledge of power plant equipment and systems.
- Possess knowledge of facility safety rules and regulations.
- High School diploma.
- Possess required knowledge of Corporation policies and regulations.
- Possess good knowledge of and ability to use hand, electric, pneumatic and machine tools as well as specialized rigging and lifting equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate and maintain a working relationship with staff.
- Requires interpersonal skills. Should be able to interact with and motivate staff. Should have a previous record of successful team involvement.
- General knowledge of common machine shop practices such as welding, grinding, gas cutting, rigging, pipe fitting and drilling. Familiar with the operation of all shop hand tools.
- Ability to lead and participate in semi-skilled tasks which may involve considerable physical exertion for extended periods of time and under varying working conditions.
- Must attain and maintain a State of Maine Boiler Operator High Pressure License within 1 year of hire.
- Flexible with hours to perform unexpected clean up, plowing and filling watch shift positions.
- One year’s experience demonstrating the ability to learn and perform from among the following tasks or equivalent experience:
- Mechanical and equipment maintenance, repair or fabrication
- Plant equipment PM
- Compressor service
- Basic machining
- Welding and fitting
- Proper use of cutting torch
- Basic pipe fitting
- Metal fabrication
- Electrical trouble shooting
- Machine Tool Operation
- Ability to weld and use gas-cutting equipment.
- Ability and experience as a mechanical repairer.
- Possess a general knowledge of first aid, CPR and firefighting methods and procedures.
- Possess ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, manuals and procedures.
- Must possess good math skills.
- Four years of relevant experience in a power plant or industrial setting.
STEP UP AND BREAK RELIEF REQUIRMENTS:
- Must meet the Job Description Requirements of Auxiliary Operator in order to qualify to fill in for an Auxiliary Operator who is absent, and not on-site for part, or all of their shift.
- Must meet the Job Description Requirements of Control Room Operator in order to qualify to Step Up and fill in for a Control Room Operator who is absent, and not on-site for part, or all of their shift.
- Must attain a State of Maine Boiler Operator High Pressure License and received plant specific Auxiliary Operator training in order to provide break relief for limited periods for an Auxiliary Operator who is on-site during such breaks and available to resume their duties as soon as called upon to do so.
- Must attain a State of Maine 4th Class Stationary Steam Engineers License and received plant specific Control Room Operator training in order to provide break relief for limited periods for a Control Room Operator who is on-site during such breaks and available to resume their duties as soon as called upon to do so.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $34.94 per hour
