Since being founded locally in 1985, Make-A-Wish Illinois has granted more than 17,000 wishes and continues its mission to share the power of a wish with children in all 102 counties across the state.

The Referral Outreach internship is focused on helping our families get started on their journey with Make-A-Wish. As families and medical professionals inquire about Make-A-Wish, the intern will screen referrals for review by our Referral Outreach Team. The intern will also follow up with the medical teams to secure intake and medical eligibility forms. As time permits, the intern will also assist with Referral Outreach activities in order to help us reach as many children as possible.

- Assisting with screening calls
- Helping with data entry related to wish children and families
- Reviewing referral information
- Preparing collateral materials for outreach events
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to demonstrate empathy and compassion in written, verbal and in-person communications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment
- Desire to contribute to the mission of Make-A-Wish
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Confident making eligibility screening calls to prospective families (training provided)
- Fluency in Spanish preferred, but not required
- Coursework in Medicine, Nursing, Psycho-Social Services, and/or CCLS
- Experience with database systems such as Raiser's Edge & Salesforce
- Must be able to work in a hybrid environment and commute to our downtown Chicago office
- Minimum age for all internships is 18
- Selected candidates will be asked to participate in a criminal background check
