MacroSource, LLC is seeking a dedicated and motivated Assistant Manager to join our team in Wichita, Kansas. WHAT IS BLICK’S?
Blick’s is the largest mobile phosphate conversion service of its kind and a division of MacroSource, LLC, the largest wholesale fertilizer distribution in the USA.
Blick’s operates five mobile units to convert phosphoric acid into a bulk liquid polyphosphate fertilizer. Farmers buy polyphosphate fertilizer from our Ag retail customers to use as a starter fertilizer to grow healthy crops.
Blick’s operators travel across the USA to carry out these services on-site at our customer’s locations on a 24/7 basis. To be efficient, the mobile units and their crews are on the road for alternating 12-hour shifts for 5-12 days before returning to the Greater Wichita, home base.
JOB SUMMARY
As the Assistant Manager, you will ensure smooth day-to-day operations of our four-person teams, our specialized equipment, rolling stock, and our maintenance shop in greater Wichita. You are responsible for maintaining safety, environmental, and DOT compliance. All while performing a variety of operational tasks to support our mission of delivering high-quality service to our customers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Become a master of mobile phosphate conversions:
Be prepared to mobilize on short notice when short-staffed or when business requires
Share driving responsibilities of our heavy-duty trucks and semi-trailer trucks
Be fully trained and operate T-Reactor equipment and our railcar heaters
Ensure proper documentation and coordination with our billing department
Team Supervision and Leadership:
Support the General Manager in fostering a workplace culture aligned with MacroSource's Vision, Mission, and Core Values, including entrepreneurial spirit, accountability, teamwork, and sustainability
Be the main point of contact for our Lead Operators and Superintendents
Resolve operational challenges effectively
Coordinate team travel schedules with the guidance of the General Manager
Coordinate any HR matters with the guidance of the General Manager and HR
Safety & Compliance:
Enforce safety protocols and ensure adherence to environmental regulations
Conduct safety training, audits, inspections, and incident investigations to maintain a safe work environment
Work with our Safety & DOT Program Manager to ensure all DOT inspections and ELDs are performed
Ensure training for all Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) are performed and updated as necessary
Work closely with the MacroSource Director of Safety to update training materials and to set quarterly goals
Goddard Shop Homebase:
Monitor and document vehicle and equipment maintenance schedules
Ensure all PSM mechanical integrity record keeping, and maintenance is performed
Ensure adequate consumable inventories are on-hand in Goddard
Be a champion of good housekeeping, alongside the rest of the operators
Identify opportunities for process improvements, including addressing operational inefficiencies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing team productivity
Administrative Duties:
Train and approve all Blick’s employees in Concur, our travel expense management system
Maintain accurate records and create reports using Microsoft Excel and other software tools
Provide support as requested by the General Manager for entering sales orders and customer billing
Contribute to the development and management of the site’s operational budget, ensuring resource allocation aligns with business goals.
Provide support as requested by the General Manager for recruiting and interviews
Be prepared to train new hires and lead the onboarding process.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
Minimum of 5 years of proven leadership experience in the fertilizer industry required
High school diploma or equivalent; an Associate or Bachelor’s degree is a plus
An active and valid Class A CDL (including manual and air brakes) is preferred
If applying without a Class A CDL, then you must be able and willing to obtain a CDL by starting in a local school within the first 120 days of employment, whose costs will be paid by the company.
Strong people skills with a track record of team supervision
Knowledge of safety and environmental compliance standards: DOT, OSHA, PSM
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Excel, Outlook, Word)
Mechanical aptitude and experience with equipment maintenance and diesel repair is a plus
Special Demands:
Must be able and willing to work in various environments, including confined spaces and heights, while wearing company-provided safety gear
Must be able and willing to work outside in various climatic conditions, hot and cold, day and night shifts.
Must be able and willing to lift 50 pounds or more
Must be able and willing to travel extensively to support operational teams on short notice
