The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 5 (Anne Arundel County) is currently recruiting for an Project Engineer (Transportation Engineer Technician IV) position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. All eligible candidates must meet the minimum and selective qualifications by the closing date. Nature of Work: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Project Engineer on a medium size or moderately complex road or bridge construction project, and a fully proficient inspector under the supervision of a higher-level technician on a highly complex project. The Project Engineer may also function as a permit inspector, responsible for issuing, inspecting, and providing technical direction regarding the following: utility; district office; residential access; commercial access; lane closure; and retrofit sidewalk permits. This position will be the primary source of technical knowledge for project staff, providing guidance, technical assistance, direction, and solutions to construction and/or engineering related issues. The Project Engineer will be charged with directing and monitoring the complete and accurate documentation of the construction process, ensuring that all files are current, and all progress estimates are accurate. As an inspector, this position will be required to instruct and mentor lower-level technicians in basic plan reading, proper construction inspection methods, and testing methods for materials used in highway and bridge construction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.
Selective Qualification: Two and a half (2 ) years of experience in construction and/or inspection of transportation infrastructure projects.

Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
- Ability to prepare clear, comprehensive, and concise reports
- Knowledge of construction project practices and management
Notes:
1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience, up to a maximum of three years.
2. Applicants who possess an associate's degree in either engineering, construction management or surveying or surveying technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the five-year experience requirement.- Licenses & Certifications
Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in state of Maryland.
The selected candidate will be required to pass the following Quality Assurance/Quality Control Certifications within the probationary period:
- Concrete
- Hot Mix Asphalt
- Soils/Aggregate

Employees in this classification may be considered "Essential Employees" and may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employee" status.
Must be available and willing to accept assignments in District 5 - Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's Counties.
