Mayfield Care Center -
Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of the position is to prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, with our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Food Service Supervisor, to assure that quality food service is provided at all times.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative Functions
1. Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submit to the Director of Food Services.
2. Work with the facility's dietician as necessary and implement recommended changes as required.
3. Assure that all dietary procedures are followed in accordance with established policies.
4. Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of Cook.
Dietary Service
1. Prepared food according to written menus with meals ready for service at a specified time. Uses standardized recipes.
2. Assists in maintaining dietary department in a safe and sanitary manner in accordance with dietary policies and procedures.
3. Assists in the service of food using appropriate serving methods.
4. Makes menu substitutions only with the approval of the supervisor.
5. Adapts to a variety of job duties as requested.
6. Attends scheduled in-services.
7. Communicates and cooperates with staff, residents, and visitors.
8. May act as manager for dietary department in the absence of the Food Service Supervisor.
9. Others as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed.
Physical Demands
Must be able to stand and walk short distances. Job requires lifting and carrying food supplies. Stooping and reaching are required. Good hand dexterity and efficiency are required to complete the job in a timely fashion. The cook will be asked to taste and smell foods prepared to assure palatability.
Work Conditions
Works in a well lighted and ventilated kitchen. May be asked to lift at least 30 pounds. May be exposed to extremes in temperature. Potential hazards : burns, cuts, and falls if safety measures are not adhered to.
Experience
Sits, stands, stoops, bends, lifts and walks intermittently during the workday. Lifts at least 25 pounds. One (1) year experience in food preparation. Stable work history. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must be able to lift and transfer heavy hot items. Must be in good physical condition. Must cooperate with other department heads and employees. Must have leadership skills to act as manager in the absence of the Food Service Supervisor.
