What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Technician position at MCPHS?
The Facilities department seeks a Facilities Technician to assist in the operations, maintenance, and repairs to the University's buildings and grounds as well as light HVAC repairs. The typical work schedule is an 8-hour shift during a 40-hour work week. Some overtime required.
- Responsible for general maintenance including painting.
- Completes facilities work and room set-ups initiated by faculty, staff, and students.
- Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains the building systems and facilities as required.
- Performs troubleshooting and repair of building distribution systems including low pressure steam distribution, heat exchangers, air handlers, Split systems and pneumatic and digital controls.
- Assists with the completion of small-scale carpentry projects.
- Performs repairs of doors, hardware, and basic locksmith tasks.
- Completes light electrical repairs to appliances, fixtures and switches.
- Completes light plumbing repairs to water and sewage systems including replacement of fittings and clearing of stoppages.
- Repairs and replaces of glass, tile, screens, locks, drapes.
- Assists in removal of snow and ice as needed.
- Assists in small office moves.
- Carries out preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Participates in the on-call rotation for emergency situations such as inclement weather or mechanical failures.
- Contributes to sustaining and enhancing an inclusive working and learning environment.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned by supervisor
- A minimum of a high school diploma or GED
- A valid driver's license
- Knowledge of HVAC installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of HVAC and associated systems employing computer-based monitoring and control devises.
- Basic carpentry skills and working knowledge of building materials, size, and nomenclature
- Ability to work with hand tools
- Basic computer skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with peers
- Ability to manage and multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Must be able to communicate and read English, follow verbal and written instruction
- The ability to occasionally work off-hours and weekends

- Must be able to lift, push and carry up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to crawl under desks
