CONTROLLER, US OPERATIONS

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, Operations, the Controller serves as a key business partner to the US Operational Leaders.

The role is responsible for all Financial Management functions and will have the accountability of Operations support and financial duties relating to the US business.

The Controller is directly responsible for the financial reporting and controls of the unit and is expected to use influencing skills to work cross functionally across the business. This includes the ongoing management of the operating financial plans as well as ensuring internal and external financial policy and procedures are followed.

The incumbent will assume day-to-day responsibility and provide accurate Financial Reporting to clients and the Corporate Office on a timely periodic manner.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Closing

• Responsible for leading the financial close process to ensure timely and quality reporting.
• Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely customer financial reporting.
• Presentation of financial results to Operational and Senior Management and to Customers.
• Manage preparation of documentation required for statutory and tax reporting, customer and year end audits.
• Management of US benefit accounting and participation as part of team to monitor and make recommendations regarding plans
• Responsible for managing process to issue timely and accurate customer invoicing

Operations Finance Support

• Detailed analysis of financial results to identify trends, customer and site profitability and support management decision making.
• Provide departmental profitability analysis to support business decision making.
• Develop and implement processes to track and report on key business metrics.
• Participate in contract negotiations with vendors and customers.
• Work with operational management for continuous improvement projects. Identify areas of improvement.

Budgeting/Forecasting

• Prepare weekly financial forecasts including customer revenue and profitability, labour and other costs.
• Working with Operational Management to prepare both Latest Estimates and Annual Budgets.
• Assist Operational Management to prepare Annual Customer Open Book Operations Budgets for various sites in the U.S.

Special Projects / Financial Support

• Manage U.S. Finance team to ensure deadlines are met, manage staff performance, and guide team in career advancement.
• Work as part of team on various special projects including those relating to systems, business profitability, customer pricing, continuous improvement, etc.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CORE COMPETENCIES:

• Post-secondary degree in business or finance and CPA designation
• Minimum 8 years of experience in finance and accounting
• Advanced Excel skills is essential
• Problem solver with the ability to analyze and prioritize to meet business objectives
• Excellent interpersonal skills, a team player collaborating with others to drive to a solution
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• California experience an asset
